Weird, I am talking to retentions. She quoted the same deal code as the R149, but now R99 per month with 10GB day and 10GB night.

It's good enough for me, but still, weird.
you are right.
This deal is R99 @ retentions, but R149 @ store.

So are the R99 and R149 deals the same (apart from the cost, obviously), or does the R99 one have less data?
IIRC the R149 deal is 10GB + 10GB night + promo 10GB + promo 10GB night (so effectively 20GB + 20GB night)

IIRC the R149 deal is 10GB + 10GB night + promo 10GB + promo 10GB night (so effectively 20GB + 20GB night)

The deal code is the same as the R149 deal -- 2018565 BF3

But the call agent at the normal upgrades told me I couldn't get the 20GB + 20GB night effective at the normal upgrade line, since my 2016BF didn't "qualify" for it.

Then when I phoned retentions I was told there's a 10GB + 10GB night available for R99, also a My MTNChoice (meaning you can load your own voice bundles separately). I then took this deal and while I was waiting for everything to go through, I persuaded her to give me the deal-ID. Lo and behold, same deal ID.

She was utterly confused about the "normal" deals versus the "retention deals" so she couldn't really explain to me why it was the same deal ID but different than the one out there.

So the main question is -- do I get 20GB or 10GB?

On the Mtn Contract page it shows as "(C_6) 24MTH MTNCHOICE 10GB". I got allocated:
- 5.33GB night express data
- between 5 - 10GB internet bundle (monthly) -- not sure how much of this is still from the old BF2016 contract though
- 2.5GB "promotional data"

And I still have 48.52GB from the "Upgrade promotion data" from the 50GB BF contract. So it might be more than 20...

I'm still not certain the retentions deal I got actually includes the 10GB promo data too... There was no mention of this by the retention dep.

I'm holding for retentions to try and get the same deal. Will report back on how it went.

Just upgraded. Asked the same to the consultant. He said that you have three option with regards to minutes:
1) load a monthly minutes bundle
2) load prepaid airtime and use that
3) call/sms as you like, and the usage will be billed at the billing cycle (up to your credit limit)

You sure this is the case? The guy I asked at the MTN store said these were "data only" sims and the only way one can make calls is if they load prepaid. No way to load a monthly minutes bundle or be billed by your credit limit. I specifically asked about those options.

Anyone else know if this is possible?

The guy I spoke to at retentions said the system is set up to automatically deactivate any dual call sims when the contract is upgraded

MTN is most likely using this opportunity to remove the dual call sims from customers who are renewing

When I initially tried upgrading to the 60+60gig deal, the consultant asked if I wanted to add on minutes to it - something like R136 for 100 minutes.

This is unfortunately the case across the board -- different consultants / store staff / retention department staff knows different things.

FYI, at the MTN store said that their BF 2016 upgrade deals are NOT expiring today, as an existing BF 2016 client you can upgrade to any of those deals anytime through till end FEB 2019.... Thats what they told me and a couple of other guys there this morning.

Just told that datashare is not possible on the first 10gb since they see it as 20gb promotional.

How are people doing the datashare? They spoke to the area manager.

I’m going for the 10gb + 10gb plus 10gb + 10gb promo

They say it’s just 20gb + 20gb

What can I show them??

Edit. Was also hoping some of it would roll over as well. But if it’s all promo then no rollover. I can’t understand why everybody doesn’t have the same info at Mtn.

Up- (down) graded to the R149 20GB plus 20GB deal. It wasn't one of my original options, but retentions were quick to offer it when I asked

I just got the R99 for 10GB + 10GB deal from retentions. 35 minutes hold to get through and less than 5 minutes to be upgraded and sorted.

Hi Guys,

Does retentions have their own number or do you have to call the call centre and ask for retentions dep?

Thanks.

So it seems the options are R99 for 10GB + 10GB, R149 for 20GB + 20GB or R299 for 60GB + 60GB?
