MTN Black Friday Discussions

Just called retentions now. Apparently you'll have to pay almost R400 to cancel early and change to another black friday contract. I was on last years 18 month contract. Decided not to upgrade and will cancel instead when the contract ends.
thought it was just 1 months cancellation fee?

That sounds fair? That is probably 1 month + remainder of current month fees (just a guess)
Possible, can't seem to find any cheaper deals too. I only require around 100gb a month. Maybe I will go for the 100gb option? Will still be cheaper than unlimited.

Somehow you blame your incompetence on MTN for not reading the fine print. You are aware it is a "contract" much like any other contract you sign where there is compensatory stipulations for early contract termination. The reasonableness of MTN to charge one month + prorate....is somehow unfair. You are aware, whether, MTN, cellc or vodacom, you will be paying a fee.

Also MTN charges a fee if you go with a lower tiered contract, that costs less than the current one also in their terms and conditions

MTN offers a contract for 24 months, but allows early upgrade 3 months before the contact ends, and waives the remainder of the contract term left. MTN isn't the villain here, you just failed to read the terms and conditions, which are reasonable, you do know before the CPA, you would be required to pay for all of the remaining months left.

Entitlement much ?

*rolls eyes*

Didn't see him blame anyone, or complain about anything, or call anyone a villain, or be entitled.
Looks to me like he's relaying that he asked them a question, and told us what their answer was, and his decision.

Also, considering upgrading before due isn't 'incompetence', in the case of these contracts its just an option/decision and if someone is willing to accept the penalties that go along with it, then fine for them. People change their minds and that's okay if they accept the consequences, which it seems he has.

Let's all just chill for a moment :)

Not hard to read between the lines, he said this ? Go figure.....
My monthly fee is R329. Was told about R379 to cancel. Hatred for MTN intensifies.
Hate mtn ? For what ? doing exactly what the contract says....? and no that pisses me off more than anything else.....not reading the fine print and complaining about it.......And yes the blackfriday 100 gig is R159.00 correct ?, which means he will be paying less than the current contract, since MTN waives the remaining contract term when you upgrade to a higher or same price contract paying less requires the contract to be cancelled. Something else in the terms and conditions.

Yeah, no sympathy from me.....

Dude, it's the festive season, chill
My hatred for MTN spans many years, let's not forget they increased the prices on their black Friday contracts last year A MONTH after signing up. Price increases are mentioned in their contract, but is it right? That seems villainous to me. Big companies should not be allowed to get away with things like this. What's worse is that anti-consumer behavior seems to be accepted after some time. Why do we allow this? Just because it's in the fine print, doesn't make it right. Gamer's Nexus needs to come to SA
Anyway, I always come to the mybroadband forums for some good advice, and pass on some info that others may not have known about.

Happy holidays!

And since there are plenty of other places to vent about contracts and consumer behaviour outside of this thread, hopefully we now can get back on topic of MTN Black Friday deals, or go to sleep until November next year. See y'all then.

They also give you fair warning of price increases as per CPA, they allow you opportunity to cancel without punitive charges eh?

What is exactly anti-consumer behavior ? The only anti consumer behavior is the consumer NOT reading the terms and conditions, which makes it clear that they can increase prices ? MTN like ANY other business isn't inflation proof. EVERYONE has been on the receiving end.

You are bitching and moaning about stuff you should be well aware off. Dude I got two increases on the last contract. I moaned about it, but I understand, nor was the increases absurd or unaffordable either and it wasn't about greed either, shyte got expensive MTN like any other ISP needs to band international bandwidth and the rand hasn't exactly been nice.

The question is what hasn't increased ???Is it worth complaining about it ? You aren't being very reasonable

You aren't being very reasonable

Being unreasonable going forward would be continuing this mud slinging in a thread where everyone else is following specifically for MTN Black Friday deals. If either of you both are going to continue your one on one discussion that's gone off topic on a tangent, please do the considerate thing by taking it to DMs or another forum thread instead.

Has anybodys pricing and bundles changed once contract has expired. That is going over contract term?

Been following this thread over the past few weeks. Didn't find anything conclusive, hence my following questions.

Till when can one get a Black Friday upgrade via retentions?

What type of data only deals are available?

Pretty sure 2 retention agents mentioned tomorrow Friday the 3rd as the last day.

There are a bunch of data only deals in the thread over the past few weeks so I suggest having another look at those.

On MTN business. I called 135, and they offered me this

A sim only on a 36 Months Made for Business M at R319.00
Provisions you with: 800 Minutes and 13.0 Gig

I will likely go with the above. These are some of the other options I was given

500 min / 10 gb - R299 *24
800 / 13gb - R319 *36
1000 min / 23 - R 549 * 24

300gb - R399 * 24

I was offered these along with 200 GB for R299. I kept asking again and again, and the representative kept stating that 130GB is shareable, whereas 70GB is not. I don't believe this. Furthermore, I'm not certain, but I think only 30GB is shareable in case of 100GB deal.
They allocated my data yesterday.

From the MTN app it shows 170gig is shareable 30gig is promotional data Also some data carried over from the previous cycle. Will see the next cycle if this is actually true. Either way pretty happy with the 200gig package, more than enough for me

In other news lol. I suspected as much....It would seem "fixed" price contracts are a thing of the past....

Has anyone received an email from MTN to state that the contract price will increase from the 1st of Feb?
