Didn't see him blame anyone, or complain about anything, or call anyone a villain, or be entitled.
Looks to me like he's relaying that he asked them a question, and told us what their answer was, and his decision.
Also, considering upgrading before due isn't 'incompetence', in the case of these contracts its just an option/decision and if someone is willing to accept the penalties that go along with it, then fine for them. People change their minds and that's okay if they accept the consequences, which it seems he has.
