MTN Black Friday Discussions

Does anyone know about porting with MTN. I have a contract with telkom which came to an end last month. I have asked them to convert it to prepaid now to release my number and they say will take 21 days. When I spoke to the salesman at MTN he said if I take out the mtn contract I wont be able to port my number as it is still in contract and they need to port straight away, otherwise can't be done. I don't get how it can be impossible to do 21 days later.

ok am i the only one wondering why no one shows a full 50GB's of data on their balances?

I ordered 2 sims on friday and a third on monday. The first two was delivered yesterday. .
Who is the delivery company? I ordered one on Friday, yet to receive it.

Awesome, best of both worlds then, what are out of bundle voice - 1.50/min at per second billing?

Yup, but then again there have been so many conflicting everything surrounding this deal that no one knows. Doesn't bother me, I won't ever use up the amounts included for anything.

Rough calculation if its pro rata data: (1.733GB x X number days left for your existing contract cycle (to say the 1st) + (14x1.733) if the new cycle is from the 14th

I'm stuck with a consultant who doesn't get back to me to finish my application. Phoned numerous times yesterday - was told there are documents outstanding but the standard response is that the consultant will get back to me

Also got that, my consultant always phoned me back a few minutes later.
What did you guys do about the MTN email mailbox full error?
The consultant gave me her personal Mtn email address, I also had that issue.

I asked and others also, apparently if your porting number is legible you can port it to the contract at any time.

Wondering if you can port that same number off the contract at any time, probably not?

Day 3:

Still no promo loaded. Anyone that took out their deal on Monday, please post if you've received it today or haven't yet received it yet.

Well, I contacted sales and apparently a sim has been allocated and is awaiting delivery but they couldn't tell me when as their delivery department is currently offline!!

@Pakka, also dealt with a Khanya and she was outstanding. Might be another Khanya...?

Anyone with an order number MIGHT be able to track delivery here...

Do you have her direct email address?

Do you have their delivery department direct line telephone no? I'm also stuck at delivery since Monday. 083 123 3667 just plays elevator music forever.

Nope, sorry...

Having an existing profile with MTN, I wasn't required to furnish them with any documentation or details other than the one's given to her telephonically.

But phone MTN sales and ask for her. They'll patch you through if she's available.

I don't but am about to go onto live chat with their 3rd party courier partner, RTT. Will see what they have to say...

EDIT: Got bounced off live chat before actually interacting with anyone... go figure...

I have a prepaid number. Took the deal on that sim. Got the inclusive minutes, etc but no promo :(

Phoned the call centre, they said within 7 days. So frustrating.

Quick question: is it possible to set a spend limit on MTN contracts?

Yes you can. You can call 808 and ask them to set it

When I asked they said you can even put it at zero rand.

Dont fall for this. R0 means umlimited. I was told to set it to R1 so it has a set figure to cut off at

Any idea if this can be managed online?

Yes. On the MTN Active website. Hover over the 'My services' tab and select the 'display services' link. At the bottom there is a Usage Limit (Mine was R0.00 by default). Select 'Edit' and change it to R1 or whatever pleases you.

I didn't port when signing the contract, but did so afterwards. Basically it is a number change which I contacted head office for. Call centers and stores said it wasn't possible.
