MTN Black Friday Discussions

Got that as well. Not surprised.
The thing is not mention on the link how much the black friday deal will increase by. Considering we just signed the new contract in Nov/Dec it means 5 months into a 24 month contract they going to increase it.

Did service providers always do this inflation adjustment bs?

Seems they only cottoned on to it in the last year or so
Is this even legal. Has anyone looked at the contracts to see if it makes provision for unilateral increase to the contracted fee? Surely a 2 year contract should be fixed for the two years?

I know Vodacom have been doing this the last year or 2.

It's in the fine print of the contract

I am also a casualty that was spoilt during the 2yrs using the 2016 BF deal, on renewal i opted for the R99 My Choice data deal, just needed to know for those that also opted for the data only deals, how are you now managing airtime, are there any options to load bundles on this plan or do we have to stick to topping up with airtime and be screwed by MTN with their call charges

Mtn prepaid rates are fine, use airtime to get a signature bundle and the per minute rates drops to 56c billed per second.

You're stuck to being screwed.

Nope.
No more call bundles on MyChoice data packages as of 8 March. You're stuck with calls at R1.99 per minute.

Also in this boat. Monitoring my spending but considering cancelling the contract.

Whatsapp calls are fine until you have to phone a company, grandma, boss, your doctor etc.

Ouch that's not cool, 10min call R20, that starts adding up mighty quick.

You guys can always try VOIP, install zoiper, it's free but maybe buy the optimised codec for a better experience. Then you can buy airtime/account with freshphone or whoever is cheapest. Call quality was good last I checked.

Can you cancel/ change the contract now? is it not too late? 4months in already?
