MTN Black Friday Discussions

What does "saves" mean? Are these only for retentions? I'd like to get a new contract...

I upgraded to this deal

R149 per month offer ...50 sms ...15.5 gb anytime...500mb night...550 min x 36 months..2020991 CT 00019 BF...

I spoke to a most helpful guy named Mpho in Retentions. He said anyone is welcome to mail him, he will get back today or tomorrow. His mail address is [email protected]

The deal structure:
MTN Made for Me XS
500mb Anytime Data
+ 15GB Anytime Data p/m
500mb Night Express Data p/m
50 Any network Minutes + 500 Any network minutes p/m
50 SMS

@ R149pm x 36 (or R199pm x 24)
+20GB Once off Anytime data, valid for 30days.

Cancellation any time = 1 month subscription penalty + current unbilled invoice.

So makes no sense to take the 24 month at a higher rate per month, if you can cancel in anyway when you want for the same penalty. Only difference is that you can "upgrade" earlier on the 24 month contract.

PS. He did mention that not all consultants have access to all deals (not sure why), but feel free to quote deal codes, he'll check if he can access them.

Got offered and upgraded to 150gb anytime + 150gb night time data contract for R349 x 24 months, cancelation penalty would be 1month + any outstanding balances on the account, unfortunately retention agent did not want to share the product code for the deal
how is everyone getting calls?

Called yesterday and this morning. Logged call for billing query, still not resolved, and to check for upgrades. I have 2018 bf deal.
Only one being offered so far is an x small.. 15gig anytime... 500min.. for R199.

I need a mix of data and minutes .. current desk is 70gig, 200min and 200 sms for R349.

Just took out the 500GB+500GB @R499. Was transferred to Sales, gave the Code, accepted the T&C's and the package was activated. Just say a friend told you about whatever code and you want the same deal. The change on the SIM is also instant so I now have 726GB total.

36 month, but sim only can be cancelled with 2 months penalties payable...
Although helpful, the agent seemed confused with regards to the cancellation of the Sim only deals. She specifically said 36 months is 36 months so this tells me that cancellation before time is not going to be good. I saw that sand_man mentioned a 2 month penalty for cancellation's before contract end. Is there any confirmation if this?

I just want clarity on if I've got 300 + 300 a month or 500 + 500 like others have got
I think you are fine so long as you are on the "My MTNChoice 400GB" package. The Agent said I will get 400GB+100GB Any and 400Gb+100GB Night.

I think they took you for an extra 50 there. There's a package mentioned a few pages back for the 150+150 for R299.

So here is to the next 3 years and R18000 later.

Yup, 36 months was too long for my liking, in my case its also regular LTE not fixed, work also reimburses cellphone contract spend so the extra R50 not really coming out of my pocket

The penalty for cancellation is one month plus the current month. So its R299 to cancel. If you keep your contract longer than 6 months (6 x R50 is R300) you already paying less than if you were to keep the 24 month contract for 6 months or more

You are paying an extra R50 a month over 36 months for no reason.

Just to throw a rock in the bush here. We are all (or most) customers from 2016 BF deals and again 2018. Anyone a customer from 2017 and 2019? How was the deals for existing customers?

Stupid question, but if I upgrade SIM only, I do not get a new SIM card, they just change my details on their system?

Can anyone confirm how debit orders will go off after upgrading. I see that my account is still showing my allocation from the previous 60+60 contract xpiring in the next week.

Am I going to get billed R299 for that contract on top of the R499 for the new 500+500 contract? Is anyone else seeing their old allocation still present?

Are the 150+150gb and 500gb
Only for existing customers
Or can I also get them
What's the codes for both of the deals

I have no idea how they worked that out, but it isn't like they went out of their way to shaft people in the process, I went from R299 to R319 and when I upgraded from the mychoice 10gig to mychoice20 gig it is back at R299 again. R19 is peanuts and is reasonable enough, I can live with that.
Thanks for confirming that it wasnt just an increase for vat
Just FYI I have no problem with the vat increase, if telkom can do it properly why cant mtn?

Also why are you an MTN cheerleader?

The agent did ask me if I want new sim or if I would activate the package on the same one I already have, so I guess it depends on the answer you gave them. I asked for activation on my current sim, but am now thinking I should have gone with a new sim and upgraded my current one to the unlimited calls BF code.
