MTN Black Friday Discussions

While trying to cancel an additional (3rd) data contract they offered me on my 2nd line (SWAMBO's phone) a nice little upgrade deal.

11gb anytime data
125min all net
24 x months for R104 per month.
2023054 CT 45351 DG

That I can live with. Not an insane black Friday deal but much better than what she had.

yeah the other deal is the 75 mins and 22gb data for R127 that i took over 24 months

and it isnt a BF deal

we waiting on BF deals they coming out the 16 or 17th

I also thought of doing the upgrade now and then maybe again on black friday. I have bene told though that the contract I upgraded was an early upgrade and penalty fee was R280. Almost double than monthly subscription.

im sure this mtn people dont know cos some were told its free, some told 150 and now you told its 180

im not sure anymore

but mtn loves adding increases

just that they do offer the best deals for BF and also the bigger data contracts had data share which was good

Tried taking this one, but the lady from retentions said I should wait for official release of BF deals to circumvent the upgrade fee

I don’t think MTN staff themselves know what’s going on….

I was told by retentions that I have to give 30 days notice should I want to cancel my contract, or convert it to Pre-Paid. But no one can tell you what you will pay during this months notice… it’s a joke. So they think we must just pay whatever they feel like charging…. Right… try again. This was after I have been told in store, and via email communication from MTN customer care, that you can convert to a Pre-Paid immediately. I think it’s the retentions dept trying to bully clients into signing up new contracts using fear tactics.

I have been offered the sky packages with 50GB data for R522 or 90GB for R602, these offer have unlimited MTN to MTN, 4500min to other local network, and some small amount of international usage - can’t recall exactly as didn’t concern me.

Still after a replacement for the 500+500 Package….

Reminder for anyone who's upgrading over the phone or online etc, please make sure you tell the consultant to EXCLUDE your number from the below marketing cr@p otherwise they'll opt you in for everything...

Stop deluding yourself, there's no way to opt out.

Just received this:
Y'ello! Your contract term has ended. Your contract is changing from R433.91 to R 972.174 on a month-to-month term. All promos have expired.

Got the same message today (13/11) but my promo stuff was already loaded on 12/11 so I should be fine to upgrade before the next billing run, hopefully there’s some value in BF deals.

Got my bill for the MtN Choice400GB after it expired. It is R1468.00. I cancelled too late so have to pay it for the final month.

My message looked like this (got it tonight):

Y'ello!

Your contract term has ended. Your contract has changed from R1,354.78 to R114.348 on a month-to-month term. Remember, you don't have any promo bundles and may be charged at out-of-bundle rates.

Thank You
MTN

I spoke to MTN yesterday. My contract (MTN Choice 50GB, BF2020) expired on Saturday. They indicated I will only be charged pro-rata for the days since expiry (Saturday) if I upgrade.

I upgraded to the Mobile Internet Ruby (70GB) yesterday. I did the upgrade online, was effective within 30 minutes.

However, the app still shows an overdue balance of R1818 (which was the full amount for my previous contract), instead of pro-rata of R163 (or close to that) that the current bill was before the upgrade went through.

So either the app doesn't include pro-rata calculations, or they have no idea what they're talking about.

Was told by the call center that you cannot upgrade from prepaid to a contract, this makes no sense. Do you guys know if that's true? Sounds like a way to get you to upgrade temporarily then upgrade again on BF. I might make use of the cooling off period today so I don't have to pay upgrade fees.

You won't be eligible for upgrade only deals because you have to open a new contract.

I did an online upgrade to the R399/200gb anytime data. Did it on the 7th November and got all the credit vetting and confirmation smses, contract note was emailed to me etc etc etc

The frustration though, the package hasn't been activated, it's stuck in limbo and the 3 or 4 reps I've spoken to, over the last 4 days, can't/don't understand why. So irritating!

In the meantime the expiring BF deal has renewed for the new month (expired on the 11th, renewed for the month on the 12th)...
