MTN Black Friday Discussions

To add insult to injury, since I upgraded last week on Tuesday (to try to prevent the massive bill), I now can't take any BF deal since the new month-to-month has to be active for at least 2 months before being able to switch to a contract.

I'm in the same boat except the lady helping me (Hlonolofatso) says concession has been made to accommodate subscribers who took a month to month. Something to do with BF's promo's running a week later this year, compared with previous years, thus creating a situation where numerous subscribers upgraded to month to month to avoid huge bills and in so doing, ruled themselves out of contention for BF contracts due to the cancellation period on month to month deals.

EDIT: Oh, I've taken a 200gb/R299 promo, the caveat is that it is 18 months, nothing else. Very frustrating as I will be outside the BF upgrade window in 2025.. There will be the option to upgrade early in 2024 on BF, where early migration fees apply... sim only so shouldn't be steep...

Just thought id share something on here after dealing with this kak again after three years...

Human beings in general AKA MTN staff are pretty kak, they just beat around the bush and tranfer two and fro.

Honestly you are lucky if you find someone actually willing to assist you or actually just call you back

I'm on the BF 2020 My MTNChoice 400.
I asked the person the send me the deal details via email, does this sound right?

"Good day as per our telephonic discussion the package consist of 200GB anytime data and you will also receive the below.
So it will be 400GB in total."

If that's for 400GB anytime data Its not to bad.

Any small contracts to downgrade too? Might just go with the 310 for R299 and half my data bill with MTN via a downgrade + data-share

if you want data and can deal with 300gigs its a good price

if you want mins and data for your phone there is few contracts for around R100 a month

Thanks for the info. Maybe I should phone them again and try to explain. Just thinking about it gives me a headache. But oh well, let me grab a Grandpa and queue the hold music

Correct, The Ignition Group and they are as useless and deceitful as they come, step very carefully around retentions upgrades and while you are on the call confirm the details of everything verbally with the consultant, repeat it back to them, so if they stuff it up they can pull the call and you have proof of whatever was claimed.
I managed to cancel my phone contract after using the escalation channel. I'm now only upgrading my uncapped internet with them, but that is through MTN Direct only.

Scum of the earth.

I will try to phone tomorrow or so, but out of interest, has anyone come across a deal similar to the 500GB deal with 400GB that's shareable? I do need a lot to share...

Retentions says that this deal (202310ESS1005) doesn't exist... They double checked multiple times.

I was however of offered 150GB anytime + 150GB night time for R318 p/m for 36 months (EDIT: 50GB shareable, they didn't want to give me a deal code). Thinking about this, but don't want to be stuck with a 36 month contract again.

Retentions are able to do an early switch of month-to-month contracts to BF contract by the way, it seems they basically have an administrative level override for these things (which makes sense).
