MTN Black Friday Discussions

mmmm, this is not good. I fear both my Business lines will be affected:

Dear Valued Client

MTN adjusts the terms of service on the Data Share value added service

MTN remains focused on delivering the best products and services that add value to our clients. We are continually innovating to ensure that the connectivity we provide is as cost effective and dependable as possible.

MTN Data Share is a value-added service that allows customers to share their data wallet with other MTN customers. This service is applicable to all Prepaid price plans and certain Postpaid price plans (in respect of paid-for inclusive anytime data).

Adjustments to this Postpaid MTN Data Share capability within MTN Enterprise Business will be made from 1 September 2025.

After the above date, an MTN EBU Postpaid number (‘MSISDN’) or line will no longer be able to use the MTN Data Share capability with an MTN Prepaid number (‘MSISDN’) or line (the ‘Beneficiary’).

Should you be a client with a package such as MTN Made For Business or MTN Made For Business Data, these EBU Postpaid packages and any other EBU Postpaid packages will no longer be able to add or link an MTN Prepaid number or line as an MTN Data Share Beneficiary to this EBU Postpaid line.

This MTN Data Share capability adjustment will apply to all EBU Postpaid packages.

Any Prepaid numbers or lines linked as MTN Data Share Beneficiaries to an EBU Postpaid line or MSISDN will be removed - ‘delinked’ - from that line from 1 September 2025.

Regrettably, this action is not being taken lightly but has become necessary after extensive review of ongoing abuse of the MTN Data Share VAS in the Enterprise environment.

The terms and conditions of the MTN Data Share service can be found here.

We appreciate your support in our efforts to continue building a resilient network to offer you great connectivity solutions to keep your business moving.

Yours faithfully
MTN, Enterprise Business Team

That's a shtty one, first they reduced it from 20 numbers to 5, fair enough guys must have been milking it but to remove it outright for prepaid numbers is bs. Hope they don't try the same move on the consumer datashare.

I had Business packages also. Cancelled em as of last year.
Better Black Friday Retention packages were available on personal contracts.

Without datashare, the 2 lines we have are near useless - they power several other prepaid sims in mobile devices which are used by staff. Guess I'll need to do a pre-Black Friday early upgrade to standard contracts next month when the datashare facility gets cut off.

I suspect this is likely due to informal reselling.... cant see how it could have been abused any other way. So........ what is the cheapest postpaid option to use to work with the new rules? I will upgrade my sims to that if its cheaper than using prepaid data

I saw this one - 50gb for R199pm on the MTN site - it would be enough for me as long as it is all shareable

No I mean for the sims that were prepaid .....what is the cheapest postpaid option? I saw sim only for R59
I just spoke to an MTN Business consultant. He says MTN offers a R6.15 per month option to move a prepaid number to contract which will then allow datashare from a business data sim.

I am waiting for him to send the quote and documents to me as I have 7 prepaid lines which I will convert to this R6.15 option.

Thanks for sharing this info, very handy, does anyone know if a similar product also offered for consumer contracts?
That's a good way to protect a prepaid number from sim swaps/illegal number porting and other bs

Had that ages-old R199 for 50Gb BF deal. It increased inprice. Received a call today and a very friendly lady offered me 50Gb for R199 again.
Grabbed it.

How much of that if shareable?

And is it 25 GB daytime, 25GB midnight?

Sent all the docs through before I left the office. Will wait for confirmation that it's done on all sims first.

Guy is super keen to help and wants upgrade business from me. I said we'll look at upgrade deals once the prepaid sims are protected for 1 September onwards.

If he offers me decent upgrades, I'll pull the triggers now and then not have to stress about bill shock come November.
