MTN Black Friday Discussions

Price Plan: Business Access Mobile (Known internally as Number for Life)
Price Per Month: R6.15incl vat
Deal ID: 202501BAM001
Update: Sorted just in time.

All 7 prepaid lines have been migrated to our business account on that number for life plan as detailed above and in the nick of time too, because all 7 sims were delinked from our 2 main datashare sims yesterday. I was able to add them again this morning via the new MTN App so all sorted and at least I won't have to load R2 airtime and send a sms every 80 days on each sim to keep them alive now.

One annoyance of the process was having to remove each sim card and write down the sim card number onto the application form, but I got it done.

Yikes mine are all over the country. Will call then in the morning

Heads up

MTN is in the process of removing prepaid numbers from working with datashore

Only contract numbers can be linked to datashare

Dont know if this is specific to business data lines or all cutomers

I currently have a 500GB + 500GB (400GB shareable) contract from Black Friday 2022, which I use in my home LTE router. DataShare is linked to 4 prepaid SIMs. This is a personal contract (not business), and I believe the underlying plan is the MyMTN 400 contract. The 36-month contract is almost up.

Today, at 1:04 PM, I received the following SMS on my main prepaid SIM:

Y'ello, you have been successfully delinked from MTN Data Share plan service Owned by -. See www.mtn.co.za for Ts and Cs.

This was completely unexpected. However, I was immediately able to re-add the SIM to DataShare using the MTN ZA App, which suddenly showed 3 available DataShare slots. My wife’s prepaid SIM had also been removed, so I added it back as well. I’m not sure why the SIMs were removed, but it seems MTN is making some unusual changes here.

Honestly, I’m seriously considering leaving MTN altogether. During my contract period, they’ve increased pricing yearly and, two years ago, reduced the number of DataShare SIMs from 21 down to 5. It feels impossible to get any resolution from them.

I need to go check mine then, in a similar boat but think I'm on 600+600 36m plan

Also had the 600+600 for R399 but they only gave me 500+500. Tried to complain but as usual with MTN that is near impossible so gave up.

Yup, check the previous posts for cheapest postpaid options....

Previous posts here speak about Business Plans being restricted to Datashare only to other postpaid, but my plan is indeed a Personal plan, so the question is are they about to deploy the same restrictions for Personal plans. I've seen the cheap R6 pm postpaid options, but really getting tired of jumping through hoops because MTN decides to unilaterally change the rules without notice.

Last week all numbers linked to my datashare were removed automatically and I had to add them back.

Today, all of them were delinked again and now it says I've reached the limit on the number of changes I can make. Anyone else with the same issue? I'm not on a business contract

That's cheeky, make you re-add numbers twice so you go past the limit and can't add them again.
My datashare sims are working fine and haven't been removed.

Called them now, they are aware of the issue and have no immediate solution (they couldn't manually add the numbers back on their end) so just have to wait it out

I just noticed the first time this happened was on the 3rd of this month - 7 days ago. Hope it's not a weekly job they run to delink numbers and that this will be an ongoing issue.

I have the same Personal Contract, also coming to an end soon.
Unfortunately, no other network offers this type of package at this rate, with data sharing. Judging from last year's BF Retentions, I doubt we will be offered the same value deals like we have.

I've received this message for a 15gb / 1000 minutes monthly bundle.

Y'ello, expires 10/26/2025. Subs change from R129.57pm to R664.346pm, month-to-month,excl.VAT. Upgrade at any MTN store or call 135.

Is it worthwhile waiting until BF this year.
Are there any stop-gap measures or better deals?
