Sky bronze R200 Discount (R1400) - WTF
We paying R599 for it currently 🤣

These deals totally suck will have to suck it up due to Datashare 😢

I cancelled my BF contract with them in Nov 2023 and in Dec 2023 signed up for the 200GB diamond package - it was R399 at the time but they increased the price mid contract as usual.

The only change they made to the 200GB Diamond package for BF is reduce the term to 12 months, currently it's available on 24/36 months only with no price difference on the term you take.

You can pick up that Diamond deal from Vodacom @ R349x24 for 200GB + 200GB

They charge R25 per number linked to datashare so works out about the same. Night data is useless to me.

The sharing subscriber will be charged R25 for the calendar month, for each unique receiving subscriber number with which data is shared. This cost will be added to the sharing subscriber’s bill.

Gents, i spoke to a MTN Champion  now, he says that we can change our contracts (in store) before the 11th of November (to avoid that whacker bill) to a Month-to-Month contract, then call Retentions @ the end of this month to get the BF Retention deals

Why in store only and what Month-to-Month contracts will be eligible for an upgrade so soon after?
Also how sure is the guy of that because regarding this I've been told three different things by three different people

I've also been told different things by other champions. But this champion explained this process in detail. The problem is, we can get the contracts changed to month-to-month in store, but the clowns in-store will play dumb when we question about eligibility of retention deals, cos that's the one thing they don't want to hear from us.

My bill date shows 17 November, so I should still have next week right?

What exactly is the process and contract type that will allow an upgrade so soon after signing it?
That's the thing I need to know because there are so many contracts and I'm sure some don't allow it even the short ones.

Like the R49 10GB retentions contract with is only 3months long apparently can't be upgrade soon after signing, well they said you might but they can't guarantee it. If that ones could that would be a good option because even if they make you pay the full 3 months as a penalty it's only a R150 on the chin but if it will block a BF all together that would be terrible.

Which deal you are referring to? Please! Share a link. I think you are referring to 400GB Data SIM (Top Up) but it's a Top Up contract and Vodacom allows multi-sim sharing only on Red Plans. Red Plans are so expensive that taking the other plans still works out cheaper. Vodacom does not compete with MTN for Data Sharing.

I upgraded both my contracts this morning to the BF retention deal. R279 pm for 50gb and 125mins. Decent offer.

Here’s a piece of creative writing, inspired by a News24 article re MTN contract cancellation and the Retentions Department.

Hello there, loyal MTN subscriber here 🤣 I love this piece and the description of the Retentions Department, in fact they used to be my top secret ammo that I would only ever let my inner circle know about, why, cause they could always wangle a deal…emphasis on ‘could’. You see I took out some crazy good Black Friday deal back in like 2014 and man were we having it (hello VodaCom), and why…cause you could share the data with like 10 numbers. We were living like fat cats, but realised very quickly that MTN forgot that our data was shareable…enter the MyBroadband chat thread on the MTN Blackfriday Deal, haha, this became a gold mine of a resource as someone figured out that all you had to do was email Jax O’Sully (not her real name) (also a former MTN exec), guys we were living the dream bypassing customer services and talking to an executive and actually getting things done, we even got like 2 months free on our contract when MTN realised they forgot to make our data shareable, flippit it was almost to good to be true.

Cause every two years since that deal, it was always the painful, heart breaking ordeal of contacting MTN to try and figure out how you could keep that level of data going and at such a good price…I mean guys we were the ones outside of WiFi hotspots streaming YouTube videos on full HD resolution…we didn’t worry about running out of data or usage, cause MTN had us…they had us…now I know, they ‘had us’, like a drug dealer, MTN knew we were nothing without them and made us addicted to the freedom of the internet everywhere we would go. Da-da-da-da-da-da-daaaaaaa (come on, you know the jingle).

Anyways, those painful customer service calls, transfers to the Retention Department and waiting an average of 45min for someone to pick up, and then the promises of just hold on, you’ll get an SMS with a special renewal offer, would then plague this once amazing offer.

And if it wasn’t good enough, don’t worry, just email Jax, within minutes you were put in touch with one of her assistants who would just make it happen, nobody knows how, I have my theories, I rate she put me in contact with the CEO or the head of the board, or some super human, because the deal…the drug supply…would continue…until one day, 2 years, the deal went bad, significantly bad, it just died.

Email to Jax, loop in assistant…loop in customer services, and the deal, the same as for everyone else, WHAT!! Email back to Jax, assistant, customer services, same schlep…

NO NO NO NO NO, it’s me, 076 xxxx 475, yes…Ryan Odendaal, address blah blah blah, yes me, remember me, I’m inner circle, your bestie, you know how you always share the good stuff with me…yes, come on MTN, old buddy, old pal, just one last hit of data at mad prices…just one last time, I promise I’ll sign up to fibre after this, I promise I’ll change my ways and get clean, but you can’t leave me this way, I can’t stand to stream at 480p…I have responsibilities now, hopes, dreams…a future…

But just like that, poof…all gone in the blink of an eye. The silence was deafening, the betrayal was too painful to bare…

Here I am.

2 years later.

Almost fully recovered and on a month to month data contract, not being able to commit long term, but somewhere inside of me there is a longing, a hope, a desperate cry for a well priced data only contract, and I know that in that moment I would abandon this temporary monthly option for something more permanent, 24 months…36 months…anything, just anything is better than facing the reality that for the last 11 years you’ve given up your choice of service provider to the one that would eventually spit you out and treat you like dirt, treat you just like everybody else.

‘Excuse me sirrrrrrrrr, have you looked in the YelloTrader…”

What a fall from glory…

It’s now cold here where I am. Everyone just stares blindly in front of them. Nobody mutters a word. You can hear a pin drop, the silence is deafening.

Yours faithfully,

A recovering MTN customer

Still an MTN customer with multiple lines, but still 🤣

PS dear Jax, if you ever read this, you were amazing!! And I’m sorry if I was part of the reason that you left MTN.

Did you follow the MyBB protocol of speaking to 45 different MTN champions, going into 4 different MTN stores in 3 different provinces to eventually take this deal?

Dial 135, option 4. Option 2. I told them I have a great contract with MTN and would like to be retained as a customer. I asked for retentions department. First person I spoke to offered me the 3 options above - 20gb,15gb or 50gb one.
I told her to update both my numbers to the 50gb one with 125 mins.

My current bf deal is 189 pm. I get 30gb and 500mins.

I have logged onto the app now and checked that the 50gb is not shareable. Not a train smash for me tho.

The plan you get upgraded to is yellow plan essential - free 100 mins and 50gb promo data. It will be a problem in 2 years tho. 😞

I think the only viable option is to sign up for the R389 x 12 month deal before the 12th to save paying that R1800 bill shocker.

Then if the general new BF deals are better, cancel the contract and sign up for a new one.

So basically, no BF Retention deal for us on our current contracts expiring on the 11th.

I see no win for us this year, so i will be going with this option tomorrow. Not prepared to take a chance on that R1700 bill. The general BF deals are meh, so settling for R389 x 12 for 250GB

My turn will come tomorrow as I accept the cruel fate of saving R25 to get 200mins less than what I currently get for the next 24 months.
Damn it sucks when you are risk averse type of person.

My upcoming bill is still showing at the normal rate R431 after all the increases.
What's yours showing as?
Maybe it will shoot up tomorrow to R1700
