Hi, I'm in Durban and i noticed that the quality of calls dropped over the past week or so... i have 2 mtn contracts - therefore i have 2 handsets so that cannot be a problem and i have friends who are experiencing similar problems where the calls breaks-up, or the quality is very low. anyone know whats happening?

In Pinetown and vodacom aint that great either, the last year seems to have gotton worse. Calls drop, network errors when trying to dial... very irritating. My wife sent me a mms while I was away on business for a week. A week later, while sitting with her, the mms came thru! Service quality does seem to be dropping.

i phoned the 808 number for help last night and i couldn't hear the operator... the call kept breaking up

LOL ... done that..

About a year ago, we just could not dial out, I eventually got a line after 10 or 12 attempts. The call was to Vodacom to complain about the tower and reception. The call lady moaned at me that she couldn't hear me properly (same thing - breaking up). She then insisted that there were currently no network errors or incidents in my area!! WTF!

i think i need to call them from a landline and kick up a storm... this is just not on.

TELL ME ABOUT IT! thou iv learn't a trick, use UMTS/3G mode only and no dropped calls, call quality is great! 3g coverage not so bad in the areas im in

true the call quality is so bad, that ive resorted to using my vgn number for all calls, now i have an MTN phone 2 months from being out of contract and doing absolutely nothing...

There's a neat cb that allows you to view what tower ur using. Iv found that 50% of them where shared towers.

So getting towers up getting a line from Telkom. long process. According to the guy who did come check the signal where im at. Posting up a small tower that covers about 1km was the answer to the problem...Thou that was a while back, i did raise the topic that Call quality on the GSM network is bad during peak time in Durban area b4

I'm in Cape Town and I have also noticed a distinct drop in call quality and I've been having a lot more dropped calls over the last two weeks or so...

Same thing here. Call quality has gotten significantly worse over the last few weeks. First i thought it was my phone, but I now used a different one. Same issues. I live in Pretoria.

call quality was bad... then it was ok for a while... but now its gone from bad (a few breaks) to worse (can barely hear the person on the other end)

Most of us have 3G phones and thats the problem.MTN and Vodacom 3G towers are over subscribed.Select the GSM mode on your phone and your problems will be solved.

MTN needs to re-do its GSM core-network,2010 comes what are these people going do

i've tried gsm and umts modes on my handsets and theres still no luck :(

MTN 3G and 2G networks run on the same core....

MTN is also in the process of putting up something like R8bn worth of infrastructure. So we'll see how this all changes once its completed in the new year
