MTN cautions service disruption

You can't caution service disruptions. The direct object is missing. Maybe the journo wrote in Swahili and ran it through Babblefish?

I don't really buy that they're doing SPAM and virus checks in deep-packet inspections. Sounds more to me like they're looking for torrents and VOIP traffic...

Does anyone know if this will this affect people on Afrihost as well?

You can't check for viruses and spam on a packet level. It's simply not large enough to be of value unless you are looking for another underlying protocol like p2p.

I really think MTN should explain what they are going to use the system for because the sinister possibilities (which go against net neutrality and privacy) seem more obvious and do-able, whilst the one's they mention sound either technically or legally dubious.

In fact, they need to explain why the heading should NOT be:

MTN deep packet inspection upgrade may cause OUTRAGE

Does this have an effect over SSL connections? Will they still be able to see what you are doing?
