I upgraded my mtn contract and an unhappy with the phone i recieved it barely holds charge the entire day... what is mtn's policy about returning a phone recived on contract..

What phone is that? Unless there's something actually wrong with the phone you won't be able to return it.

Policy states that if the phone has not exceeded 15 minutes talk time or 7 days from purchase and theres something wrong with it then you can take it back and claim an out of box failure, they should then give you a new phone. If you dont meet that criteria though they'll take it in for a repair....

I doubt the phone is broken i just think the battery wont last a whole day of business use...

got it friday so havent used it for a business day yet... will have to see on monday

My Diamond, which is actually faulty and is going back tmrw, is ok with battery life, but not great. It does however last atleast a business day. It also depends on your usage, are you using the phone all the time? What do you use it for? Also make sure Wifi, 3G and Bluetooth is off when you not using it, that will chow battery big time.

Well judging from past experience with alot of phones:

I have NEVER encountered a phone that can last more than 5-6 hours on full active 3G+office type usage [emails/docs/voice calls] for that time. Throw in a few actual voice calls and your phone is dead in 4 hours easy. I had it on Nokia,Samsung,Imate..name it..that's just how it is with the small batteries.

Just imagine how long you last with a laptop on battery power going full speed on the internet ...very few laptops get past 6 hours (in fact most are dead in 4 hours easy)...and they have massive batteries in comparison.

Now take into account the size of the HTC Phones, smaller phones means smaller batteries....something gotta give eventually ;)

I think alot of people overestimate the battery power on cellphones...they think they can go fullout with GPS+3G Browsing+Push Email services+Voice Calls+MP3 Player going loudly in the background + making some voice memos + taking a few photos ....and NOT expect the battery to go flat in 2-4 hours?

On my last Nokia, i had to turn off alot of things to extend the battery time, one of which was forcing the phone to GPRS-only [not switching between 3G/HSDPA/EDGE/3G the whole day] . Turning off GPS, turning off bluetooth, never use it for MP3s, turn off any unnecessary power draining features [backlighting etc], turning off any apps that feels the need to continue running even while the phone is supposedly in "standby" etc etc.

Its not the battery, it the 3G antenae.
Im getting 1.5 - 2 days with 3G off!

As for the thread starter, its a common problem with the phone so if they replace you with a new one, you WILL have the same problem.

Yeah mine is the same, 1.5 - 2 days with basic usage and no 3G on. Make sure your 3G is actually off because in cases like updating the weather for example the 3G connection stays on!
