MTN cuts off Cell C number range

This behaviour is expected from MTN/Vodacom. Stifle the smaller players in the market so you can dominate and keep prices high. MTN still has their own VAS Numbers working from other networks. It's used as dial-through services and makes lot of money from them and their service providers/VAS partners. This smacks of anti-competitive behaviour. Maybe they must be reported to the Competition Commission.

Seems like MTN is trying to do ICASA's job.

Let's wait and see what Alan Knott-Craig says.

Maybe some1 should lodge a complaint with the competition tribunal/commision

Goodbye EmptyN

Can this be used against them to get out of contract?

I would love to give them the boot!

MTN wants to be a MOB of The Mobile!i will cancel my MTN contract anytime soon.i just notice i cant call 084 1976 776(callstar) anymore.they were providing me nice overseas service:-(

Are these bottom feeders even allowed to legally do this? Bet we won't hear a peep out of ICASA - pay TV porn seems to be top of their agenda.

"MTN’s helpdesk was called, and they informed MyBroadband that the problem is definitely not with MTN, but rather on Cell C’s side. This is not accurate and such misinformation may mislead some consumers who are looking for a reason why these numbers suddenly stopped working."

Doesn't surprise me - there is honestly not a bigger bunch of utterly useless, unhelpful, uninformed, arrogant helpdesk/call centre oxygen thieves in all the universe...

That warrants an official complaint!! Please tell me you have records of this.

There better be an article about ICASA demanding MTN restore service in the morning!

I can't actually believe how quickly ICASA reacted to the porn non-issue and have basically done nothing else. I don't see them doing anything:mad:

“This is a matter between MTN and its stakeholders and MTN would not wish to comment until discussions have taken place,” said Robert Madzonga, MTN SA’s Chief Corporate Services Officer.

That's bull****. The matter *has* been discussed between MTN and its stakeholders and that is the reason why they cut it off in the first place. Now they have to re-discuss?

Does no one have common sense at MTN? "Gee, we block a few numbers, who'd notice?? We make more money, awesome"

Er... yea...

The funny thing is, ICASA only acted on this after their "if you don't hear from us for 2 months consider your application approved" stance lapsed and the public went haywire (when I say public, I mean extremists that love yelling and making a scene for absolutely no ****ing reason). Then suddenly an interdict was filed and a "ruling" made.

Bull****, but true. ICASA only acts when the public looks at them in scrutiny.

I still don't understand the legality of that decision:confused: I don't feel bad for TopTV, they don't deserve it after the way they handled the whole situation, but the precedent is what bugs me - political meddling with irrational personal feelings winning over proper investigation and rational decision making.

Good article Mybb.

I just tried using my Vodacom sim and my home phone to call the mxit service again (084 1966 948) and thank goodness it still works.

I'm just worried that the networks were waiting for the first one to move before they all cut off these numbers, although hopefully they realise there's money in these calls.

only 6 weeks left before I port from MTN:D

Out of the frying pan into the fire. They're all as bad as each other. I got released from my vodacom contract as I could not ever complete a call from my house in randburg.

my wife has another 6months :( I will enjoy showing them the middle finger.

What are you talking about, TopTV acted exactly according to the law and regulations. ICASA contravened their own regulations and some court actually allowed them to get away with it.

Funny, I am in for an upgrade next month (in a weeks time), and I am also considering not taking the upgrade and moving to another network, this after being with MTN for almost 6 years.
