MTN Data Billing

I've been charged

Okay, I've been invoiced and they've hit me with the PSD charges I queried a couple of weeks ago. The lady proceeded to tell me that it can take up to 20 days for them to process my query... by then they've got MY cash! My voice contract is up for renewal and I'm seriously thinking of moving to Vodacom.

I've always been a die hard MTN supporter but I'm starting to reconsider.

Any way, I'll let you know what happens.

What are my chances of getting the press in on this?

Don't worry. ICASA has stipulated 14 days max for reply to queries and MTN cannot or will not do so. Been waiting for months.
So they got your cash!!! Why did you not reverse it at your bank? I did.
This infuriated MTN to the extent that they suspended my account and put their lawyers on me.
Four queries and no answer from MTN.
MTN's lawyers sent me a "Please call me"
Maybe we should pass the hat around and get them airtime?

Maybe all of us should go Hello Peter

There were 680 complaints on HelloPeter on MTN's over billing. They disappeared overnight. Perhaps because of overload.
So forget HelloPeter.

Want to take out an ad in a local paper?

There was enough media on the over billing by MTN by both sides. MTN admitted that they screwed up publicly. AND they said they would sort it out.
To date NIX.

Solution

Then just keep trying to get a refund / resoultion.
Use all the channels available and check with them every day or 2.
Keep records of everyting and email every relevant person in the company.
Consider taking someone (e.g. their execs) from the company to Small Claims Court. I don't think that they are allowed to bring their lawyers to the Small Claims Court.

I suppose the press make a lot of money off MTN... don't bite the hand that feeds you.

I have been asking the help desk guys to email me the reference numbers. The last one I spoke to kind of laughed at me and said she would email me when she got a chance (read "forget it" between the lines). I'm going to call again today.

Tell them you are recording the call... always works

I sended a email to their exuctive officer, got refunded two months subscirtion and given a crap explanation that I used the rest of the Data. No apology or who is at fault.

Don't suppose you feeling like sharing the email address?

Came across the exact same problem...MTN sucks big time. Another issue is free Rand value airtime. I am on an Anytime 350 and in December used 124 minutes and Rand value depleted with no SMS or data usage yet MTN cannot give me a response>>>>Hope they catch a wake up soon!!!

This is now the 3rd time in 6 months that I'm overcharged.

MTN call centre does not respond.
Posting it on hellopeter, MTN just use the same reply for every query/complaint that they will escalate or investigate.

Apparently the contract states that they can take you on legally if you don't pay, regardless if you have a dispute. They just disconnects your line and sends it to legal. In the mean time you are still liable for the subscription even though they suspended you line.

I am pretty sick of this. Can we not collectively complain in some way. I think there is enough people in the same boat here.

MTN billing sucks, and we have to pay the price.

Will they reimburse anybody who lost business because of their mistake and the line being suspended? Absolutely not!

But wait!

Got my latest statement today and guess what. I have been overcharged again. On some of my numbers I have data bundles but I have been charged for all data transferred.

Now have to complain again. Does this ever end?

What exactly is preventing you from laying fraud charges against MTN?

Same here.

Despite endless problems last year with overbilling, phones getting suspended, their useless MTN Active "system", endless frustrating calls to 808, I thought my problems were mostly over after my bills "normalized" the last three months.

I even "accepted" their billing mistakes and agreed to pay off the incorrectly billed R3500 over a few months just so my wife's number would not be cut, as she has a business.

January 2010, I get billed R4500 for my data card (2 Gb account). Funny thing is that I have not used the data card in December as I was on leave. 808 tells me that it is for data calls made in Sept 2009. That's when I lost it.

The best plan is to get away from MTN as fast as you can...

I had billing problems for the full 24 months I was with them - it was the longest contract I ever had the misfortune of enduring.

Even with all the comments hellopeter deleted with regards to MTN, they are sill the worst, even after CellC :p

Looks like Vodacom will get a couple of new customers soon.
