Q: MTN Dual Call?

Can MTN Dual Call be used to have a single account for both your cellphone and data card? So with your cell you:
  • Make and receive voice calls
  • Browse wap sites (depleting a loaded data bundle)
  • Check your available balances
and with your data card you:
  • Use the internet (depleting a loaded data bundle)
all of which is billed to a single account/number?

Can both be used simultaneously?

Both cards are linked to one account but have their own number. So you can phone directly to either or call the primary, and, if it isn't answered it will switch to the secondary card. You can use both for data calls, but bundles are only used by the primary (Which is a bit silly, unless I am mistaken here. Though this is my experience)

They can be used simultaneously. Dual call is like having 2 sims, one billed account and a slight restriction on the second sim. That being not having the ablility to send sms's from the second sim or CLI (again my experience). Both are restictions placed by the network and can be lifted (though unlikely that they will)

Good day,

Jano & Cube

A Dual call sim is to be used for one purpose - It's suppose to be sold under the condition that it's going to be used with a fixed car phone.

The way it will work is if someone calls your primary should you not answer it then it will then divert to your secondary should you not answer the secondary it will then divert to voicemail.

You should not know what your secondary number is as it should be used as a divert tool, not to receive independent calls on it, nor to send sms's.

The secondary has been provisioned in the following way. GPRS is not loaded on the secondary, it can receive sms's but not send it can make calls but not receive as you shouldn't know what the number is. Lastly no rate can be associated as far as data bundles go as the secondary has been provisioned on the network so that no data bundles can be loaded from a systematic stand point.

Hope this helps

Any idea what this GPRS/EDGE USB modem will cost?

What will the price be for a prepaid customer, on a MyChoice TopUp contract or on a Prodata contract?

@ MTNDD wrt a previous post of mine

If MTN as a network is so concerned that mutliple users per account could cause abuse thereof, why is Virgin Mobile allowing this?

Quote:

"We also offer you the ability to add multiple phone numbers to your Virgin Mobile account. This means you can have a SIM for your phone and another for your partner and kids. You can even set separate thresholds or Talk Limits for these numbers so you can rein in family members who plot to run up your bill."

Is this not the same as Dual Call?

In theory, this could add simplicity and flexibility to the cell acc for many families.

Good day,

Cube

No it's not the same as Dual call. What virgin are talking about the other providers also supply, it's applying for indavidual contract's but on the same account where it talks about putting them on separate thresholds they talking like Mychoice 75 as aposed to Procall 300, and where they say you can rein in family members who plot to run up your bill." I think there they talking around the bill limit which we offer as well.

Hope this helps

I think the one you talking about Piranha786 is the special that's running with the data card is that correct?

That's on a MYCALL 100 @R49 a month for 24 month's

Sim and connection R236,80 Once off

With the Mycall 100 you get 15 Peak Minutes
85 Off-Peak Minutes

Thanks MTN DD

@ MTNDD

Silly me, I forgot about the fact that dual call switches the unanswered call from one phone to another. Which is fine, but I have dual call simply because I need two sims (one for calls & sms and one for data).

So what I need to know now:

Can I link two sims to one account without using dual call and can it be done on any contract?

You can apply for an additional contract e.g. PRODATA @ 9,99 per month if you have a data card,

The only bad thing about ProData is VoiceMail, VideoMail, SMS bundles, Me2U Transfers and Faxmail are not available on ProData.

Also on your dual sim, the older dual call sim's still has GPRS loaded so you probably getting semi decent speeds all the new dual call activations by default.

GPRS is not loaded, and as you already know no Data bundles can be loaded onto a Dual call sim, also I know you're not suppose to be able to send sms's I know you can receive on a dual call sim but not send.

I don't know about the mycall 100 contract (pls link me to it if possible) Seems to be even better than the topup 75. (if you get the card free)

I just know of the 75 topup where you get the card free.
