MTN Datashare Changes - 2/11

Are the 5 left even working? It seems even though they are linked they don't actually work
check and delete all of them and reinstate them ,one of mine had changed to an unknown number that was using data

Please advise on this datashare query:

When you set a datashare limit, does that limit renew every month or not?

Example: set a limit of 10GB for a member.
Does this mean that the member can only use 10GB and that's it, or does it mean 10GB per month?

10GB per month and it resets on whichever day your data resets and new bundles are loaded.
To get round that you could give a datashare 10gb and then remove them from the datashare before your data resets again, or reduce the limit to something tiny.

The limit resets every month on the 12th for me.

it means the member can use 10GB every month. (Runs from the 12th of current month to the 12th of the following month)

Any views here if MTN is legally allowed to limit this datashare on existing contracts? Has anyone tried to file an official complaint, if so what was the response, if any?

You could probably argue not but who has R200k to argue it in court with no guarantee of a successful outcome.
The sneaky bastards know how to play the game

Oh is that to say that once the data resets and they get 10GB again, you can't just remove them (or make the limit small) at that point?

This is in no way legal, especially if you have a contract with them. The change that they already made goes against contract law.

Anyone having issues with datashare ?
Its been reset on my contract and keeps throwing a failed error every time I try switch it back on.
Is the app the only way to switch it on or is there another way?

2023 black friday upgrade

Anyone get an error :
"can't share data, this number part of a price plan that is not eligible to be part of datashare"

Trying to share data to a prepaid sim with no luck, already shared to 1 other contract sim

Personally I could never get data share to work and gave up 😉 So good luck!
Does it show that you have datashare in the MTN app?
It either is supported by your contract and it works or it doesnt and theres no option for it.

I have a contract but the data I received is very little. I bought extra data and tried to share it. The number I shared it with won't connect to the internet. I called 135 and they said you can't share data that is not part of the contract. Is this true or the lady just wanted to get me off the phone?

You can only share the base data on the contract but one "feature" you can use is the main number will typically use promo or ad hoc data bundles first so if you plan correctly you can share the base data and then use the extra data on your main number.

Thanks makes sense

The app has been turning off datashare.
I share with my brother and he asked me if the data was depleted.
He had only used 26GB.
The toggle to share data was off, when I turned in on there was a message at the bottom of the screen that only accounts eligible for datashare may share.
Then it continued to share the data.
But my brother was not able to browse.
So, I removed him and added him again.
Now he has access to the plan again.
