MTN does not respect the "STOP" instruction wrt SMS spam

I'm also so sick of these messages. I have sent stop to the specified number many times and it is never honoured.

I have gotten used to this now. I get around 10 spam SMS's from MTN on my prepaid SIM every week. It doesn't bother me that much (I just delete them). What irks me is the time some of them are sent. I work hard and the last thing I want on a Saturday morning at 5am is some message from MTN about buying data bundles. Not even my family or closest friends send me messages at such hours unless it's emergency.

I'm getting so frustrated with this now as well. I'm using the new MTN app which replaced the old myMTN app. I go to the manage consent tab in the app and try to turn off the consent initially granted and guess what...as soon as I turn either option off it instantly turns it back on again, how is this legal?

Could just be dirt and grime on your touchscreen?
It is utterly useless you do get a message on screen that you will no longer get any messages and then the feature turn back on again.

Then use a screen recorder (or another phone's camera*) and upload the resulting clip to social media to name-and-shame them.

* If you'll be using another phone's camera to record the action, please, for God's sake, clean that g0ddamn dirty screen first.

Open your mymtn app and select your marketing consent options. Go via mtn services tab

How about no.

The legislation is specific. The process is opt IN, not opt OUT.

The consumer should not be required to fiddle with this bloatware carp to correct something MTN enabled by default, in contravention of the law.

Personally, I would happily pay good money to see MTN/Vodacom upper management tossed on a bonfire. It would alleviate so much aggravation and serve as a fantastic lesson to all.

yeah, I did a screen recording but it shows my number so I don't wanna be sharing that. Will have to try recording with another phone while blocking out the number.

To stop getting these spam SMS messages I turned notifications off using settings under messages. This kept my (wife's) phone quiet for a long time. Fiddling around with it yesterday I turned it back on again which promptly caused 78 Spam and other SMS messages to download. So If you don't use the SMS message service this could be a temporary work around.

I'm having the same issues with MTN. Tried the app and *135#, but it doesn't help at all. I'm moving to Vodacom if this is not sorted out.

Switched to mtn then this shyte starts, can't cancel it, had been automatically signed up by them for some gaming subscriptions more than once.
will be moving to vodacom once the number port grace period is over
