MTN drops data bundle prices

And in other news:

10MB +10MB free – R10 (no price reduction, 10MB free) Cell C: R3
75MB + 25MB free – R29 (down from R49, 25MB free) Cell C: R15
300MB – R79 (down from R149) Cell C: R45
500MB – R119 (down from R189) Cell C: R75
1GB – R149 (down from R289) Cell C: R150
2GB – R245 (down from R389) Cell C: R300

So we can conclude that on the 2GB bundle MTN is actually, shockingly, offering excellent value. However if you are not using more than 1GB (a.k.a 99% of everyone) then you are still an idiot for being on MTN.

Don't forget Cell C gives you free stuff when you recharge. If I load R50 for data purposes I get free 50MB plus 300MB for R45, so 350MB total. Awesome value! I love being on Cell C.

How long does that extra 50mb last, few days?

saw the ad in the paper today for the cheaper bundles. what made me take note (as well as a photo), was mtn's breakdown of what you could do with that much data. they're scheming you could watch 1024 hours of streaming video with a 2gb bundle?

also, why can i send 25600 emails on 500mb, but 1gb only gives me 29959 emails? do they know how math works?

Hi, i am looking for something like this:
http://www.cellc.co.za/cell-phone-deals/prepaid/zte-mf190-on-smartdata-3gb-speedstick

It's for my sister.she doesn't want a contract or being forced to use data within a month or 2.
The MTN web site is very messy (always been), do they offer something similar?

Edit: what can be considered a similar offer from MTN?

If MTN does have anything similar, and I doubt that they do, you can be sure it'll be much more expensive. Easy solution: your sister can just use Cell C.

I'm assuming she is aware of the two most popular 3G deals in the country? 60GB+60GB on 8ta and 50GB+150GB on Cell C, both prepaid, R1800 and valid for a year.

I've been on 8ta's 10Gb per month (at R199) for a long time now, and I am confused as to why anyone is considering this MTN offering at all. What's the deal? Am I missing something?

Let me enlighten you as to why some people still stick with MTN and Vodacom. I'm my case I will stay with MTN because they offer excellent 3g and HSDPA+ reception in my region. 8ta and Cell C on the other hand provide a laughable Edge coverage on their networks.

So I'll just stick with MTN until 8ta and Cell C catch a wakeup. ;)

Yes. You're missing reception.

Necro thread - sorry.

Does MTN 2 gig last for 2 months from date of purchase? 8ta data expires at the end of the following month no matter when it's purchased, eve if you buy after 20th. Is MTN the same?

It's a topup on anytime 100.

unless they've changed since i was with them, the data lasts 30 - 60 days. that is, it ends at the end of the following month.

buy today, last day is end of june. or at least it was like this around a year ago.
