MTN International Problems

It seems to have sorted itself out now after a few hours. I would still want to know why this happens?

I don't want to disconnect now that it works. The next time it might not work again!

Why is it so unreliable the last week or so?

I tried both the internet and mymtn apn when I was having problems and it made no difference.

Thanks, its ok for me now, but other people still seem to be having problems.

Hi MTNDD

The problem happens ad hoc. I will be surfing or playing games without a problem. Then all of a sudden international, and ONLY international, bandwidth will drop to almost 0 kb/s. It seems to last for a few hours and then if you log on again it's fine again. Last night it was fine again.

Thanks Darkshadow

Guys are you still having a problem?

Please let me know ASAP

Thanks MTNDD

My problems seems to be sorted now. Any idea of what went wrong? Like I said, I noticed it getting worse over time (last two weeks), but ow it is nice and fast again, even over the weekend.

Thanks for your help.

We are doing 70 mbps international peak during these times mentioned but the traffic is not flattening out as we have a open bit pipe with NS at these times.
The issue is most likely radio related, unless you have tried local sites and you're having a problem there as well............

The current international capacity is sitting at 100mbps international.. we are no where near reaching it..

I still have problem with international link (Port Elizabeth area)...
MTN_Data_Dude please check your PM...

Thanks

Cannot access any international sites on 3G/HSDPA, Goodwood Firestation, Cape Town. Using the internet VPN. Local is fine. Going to switch to EDGE and report back.

Local and international on EDGE fine.

Switched back to 3G/HSDPA and both are still fine.

Since about Xmas, I've found International bandwidth awfully flaky.
In particular, I frequently cannot really use gmail.

Currently I'm at a hotel near the airport, 4 bars on EDGE. Last night
I couldn't see anything overseas -- gmail, news.google.com, slashdot, etc...
It would all take for ever and then give up without loading.

*But*, I could ssh to an account on a machine in Vancouver.

I could also *almost* read slashdot if I went through a proxy that
is in my office (which is sitting on the TENET network @ U of
Zululand), but it was horribly slow. But still couldn't get gmail up.

I'm wondering if there aren't issues with transparent HTTP proxies
at MTNNS or on the GPRS side.

I gave up last night -- now things seem to be fine, although it
should be pretty quiet because it's the middle of the night.

However, I find this on-and-off flakiness is driving me nuts. I
really don't have any better connectivity options than GPRS
in the place where I live & I just cannot work at home about
half the time as a result.

I am in the Waterfall area in Durban on EDGE through my Nokia N80.

I was also having problems with international sites last night.

Some sites wouldn't load at all, others would take an excessive amount of time to do so.

I did however notice on a large international download (+/- 15mb) the download speed did go up over the course of the download. It started at under 1kBps and by the time it finished was going a huge (in comparison) 4kBps.

I haven't been tracking exact usage, but I generally log on in the evenings and I've been having this problem pretty consisently in the evenings.

Local has been fine and I get full EDGE speeds when downloading from a (fast) local site.

Good day,

Guys

I appreciate all the info and do apologize for the inconvenience caused

If you guys can please keep me posted via PM with your details - e.g. - Time of the problem, physical area, cell number and so forth I'll keep getting these to Network as there clearly seems to be a problem

Will keep you guys posted with any developments on our end

Good day,

Re the International problems

This issue is being addressed by Network group and MTNNS have approached us from their side as well. We have a meeting with NS later today to allow 30MB more traffic to NS.

This will be done during the next 24 hours and should sort out the matter of international sites

Please keep me posted during the course of tomorrow and Friday

But just some feedback
