I have had the new iphone 4 for 2 weeks now and have not managed to sort out the MMS functionality.

On my previous generation iphone I could just enter an APN, username and password and was set to go. Somehow the APN options are not shown anywhere.

I spoke with the people at 173 and they could not help me - just said I should phone 0831555 at chargeable rates - this is ridiculous as it will then probably cost 10 minutes or almost R30 to set up my MMS. Is there a cheaper (free!) way to get MMS activated?

cheers

Thanks Synergy, but see my previous post - THERE IS NO PLACE TO ENTER AN APN!

Under Setting->General->Network the only options are:

1) Enable 3G on/off
2) Cellular data on/off with a further data roaming option on/off
3) Internet tethering on/off
4) VPN
5) Wifi

My old jailbroken iphone had the cellular data network options with the items listed by you, but that is not shown in any way on my iphone 4 from mtn.

Gambit, thanks yes it did! I just managed to send an MMS without the "red !" showing. Will wait for a reply, but seems sorted.

cheers and thanks again :-)

Hi there

I am expierencing the same problem, like you did, except, when i reset the network settings, the problem is still there.

Any advice on how to fix the issue?
thanks

I have a similar issue. Have you managed to sort it out?
I go to Settings->General->Network->Cellular Data Network->
However once I get there there is no MMS APN nor can I add one
iphone software version 4.2.1 8C148
Carrier version: MTN 9.1

I remember when I restored a backup from my old iphone 3G (before MTN actually had its own carrier settings), it completely screwed up the Cellular Data Network. Mine also did not have any input fields that I could populate. So I just re-installed without restoring from backup and now its working fine

when you restore or update it will prompt to update carrier settings, click yes and you are good to go.....
this carrier setting removes MMS setting, its not needed, as long as you update carrier settings after restore or update
