MTN is like SASOL

Hi Uli. 1st off, I agree that it sucks to have to pay so much for *service without a smile*

But what can you do? How about instead of complaining you go set up a business plan where you offer cellular services at "cost price" or close to it. You know, the price that you, Uli, want to pay. Now go to an investment bank or venture capitalist and try to sell them your idea. I dare you.

They will look at the figures and ask you one question: "Why should we invest our money for little or no returns when we can put it in the bank for better returns?"

Then you will realise that you cannot run an huge company like MTN as a charity. I wish they would, but you cannot.

What you really should be pissed off about is the fact that the government so badly mismanages Sentech. They are supposed to bring cheap communication to all South Africans. But like all government departments (except SARS, go figure) it does not work.

We pay insane prices for health care, education, security, transport, etc... because the departments that are suppose to offer it for free or cheap don't work.

Now we rely on capitalists to supply us with essential services.

The Inconvenient truth.
Big up to Uli for speaking up! +10
The only way these profit behemoths will drop prices is when HEALTHY competition from rival network Neotel and even the biggest bully Hellkom cellular tries to saturate the market.
Why?
Because that wonderful Seacom cable is coming and Fifa want the prices down for 2010 Maybe South Africans are used to being financially abused by monopolistic companies.
If we were Americans we would be protesting outside of Washington about this, and then
all the media attention of their many tv networks would cause such a fuss that they would have to give in.
Heck perhaps we should try and do something and get support from overseas in a bid to rectify the situation.
Now with everything going on would probably be the best time!

What you are talking about is correct but if you have a look at what Virgin is selling their product...explain that to me in simple terms? Virgin buys the airtime from Cell C and then resells it. Profits are main by both parties. and they are still cheaper than what we currently pay with MTN and Vodacom.
The thing is that all of us here in SA actually contributed to building up both these strong networks in SA years ago. Yet someone like virgin walks in and buys airtime and resells it for cheaper....
Now blow me if I am wrong but it seems as though we all getting robbed blindly for something we all actually helped build and pay for.

I also do Agree 110% with the governments problems, but does that mean everybody should jump in the fire?

And yes I do know that the network on Virgin sux, but how many times does it happen that you try and phone lately on the other networks and you get a network busy signal anyway.

Are you sure? Check out all the packages. Are you sure that Virgin makes a profit? AFAIK that info is not public.

So you can get it cheaper on a network that doesn't offer the same quality of service? Gee, how surprising.

Money is money, ou Pêrd. Do you really think virgin would sell against a loss... MMMM I don't think so. Then there would be no virgin.
Plus if you read correctly then you would see that I am also complaining about the poor service that the other providers are giving the public.
DO DO
