You've obviously never noticed the difference between a normal cellphone call and using a VOIP solution.

I'm really glad they've done this. It's about time our networks start improving the voice quality. Most modern smart phones are capable of this standard, and even Apple has started supporting it since the iPhone 5. Obviously? Could it not be that I just think the investment would be better spent on improving the quality of existing services? Maybe economy of scale reflected in data pricing rather than better audio quality than necessary, perhaps?

There's also True HD voice BTW. All about the compression used and frequencies that get cut out.

I wonder if Opus codec will be used in future for mobile network voice? Seems Opus will be the standard for VOIP in future.

Don't bitch about something new if you're going to bitch about it when it's gone.

It's an improvement, a good one. MTN has raised the quality barrier for calls, and Vodacom will probably soon follow.
Cell C on the other hand will fail to implement this as demand ensues, as they're already too far behind: lack of LTE, already suffering coverage issues, etc.
