MTN launches MXit competitor

Until 1 March it gives you unlimited free sms'ing. Great! At least I am going to save about R600 already. Just have to force my wife to sms everyone via noknok only. Heeeeeehaaaaa!

If it doesn't have an XMPP backend then i'm not interested :D

keeps telling me unable to log in

Me 2. Its all about "Me-First" with the Networks, marketing is more important than smooth delivery and working product , and what does it matter, like Telkom in the past if your NoKnoK does not work for any reason..........will they loose you as a client? I don't think so.

Question:
If they up the Data charges after their Promo period, for using this product then why would the MXIT traffic not be included, its the same profile of traffic not so?? Do you think they will charge you more for the Data when you use theirs, but less on MXIT or any other IM ? That would be shooting themselves in the foot with an AK47 on auto :)
BTW: cant get back onto that Web site this morning, it now points back to MTN main page.

unable to login, so I guess discussion of performance and usage is mute.

"It's begun" is a gross exageration!

"Knock Knock"
Who's there?
"Not"
"Not who?"
"NotNoc"

LOL (I have a bad habit of laughing at my own jokes.):D

Hi,

Try getting the correct wap settings for your phone (*123*13#). You need to use the WAP gw proxy.

Ciao

Tried it on Windows mobile as someone else said. It said it was not available as yet and said I could chat via WAP at Im.mtn.co.za/xhtml-mp.front.action, but this threw up and error "Colibra This service is not available for your phone IMPS messenger"

Tried it on an N70. It said the phone was compatible, but threw up a DNS error. Tried on a Nokia 6230 and it said only these phones were availble.

Nokia 5200, 6230i, 6233, 6280, 6288, 6300, N73,N95, N80, Sony Ericsson W810i

Who goes to market with 10 phones?!

On your PC, you need .NET and IE. .NET is 23.1 MB. Why oh why?
Gone are the days of real programmers...today we have glorified script kiddies who do quick programming courses and do things using frameworks.

They might of well have used Java instead

no thanks. mxit rules.

For the duration of the promotion period, which ends 01 March 2008, MTN customers will only be charged standard data rates.

does that mean when the "promotion" ends they will charge data rates higher than the standard data rates?

The promotion period means that sending messages via the service will be free, being charged only for the data exchange. When the promotion period ends there will be a fee incurred probably for every message sent. In essence very much like the 'moola' of Mxit, where users are required to purchase a certain minimum amount of the virtual currency in order to send messages.

Currency is only required to use MXiT's value added services (movie/news feeds, chat rooms etc.). The core messaging functionality is not charged for.
