Hi,

Apologies if this has been asked before - but what is the actual cost of activating the LTE service on an MTN contract?

I have an iPhone 5 - and requested the LTE service to be activated on my account - which the help desk duly did - but informed me that there is a R49 per month cost??

According to the MTN web site (http://www.mtn.co.za/Support/Legal/TermsAndConditions/Pages/LTE.aspx) there is no cost - and I know Vodacom do not charge for the service.

Yet the person was adamant that there is a cost (Having said that - she was reading from a script - because didn't really know what LTE was).

Anyone know if there is actually a monthly fee to have LTE enabled? (Have not received my latest statement since activating - so not sure)

Thanks!

They charge you extra for LTE, and it is currently not much better than 3G. LTE in it's current form is just a big marketing scam.

As far as I know there always was going to be a cost as value added services. it was only the initial roll out phase that there was going to be no cost.

7. LTE VAS and Internet Packages

7.1 After the customer has activated the MTN 128K SIM card, paired it with an LTE-capable device, updated their software on the LTE-capable device and checked that they are in an area covered by LTE, the customer is required to subscribe to the LTE VAS in order to access the LTE network.

7.2 The LTE VAS is available at no cost.

7.3 Customers will require an Internet bundle to access the Internet. MTN recommends that customers load a higher end package. Further information regarding Internet packages.

7.4 The LTE VAS service is not allowed to be loaded onto any uncapped packages, that is, the MTN Uncapped Lite and MTN Uncapped Pro are disallowed.

I dont think MTN knows what they doing anymore. They just want to make more money and expand. They forgetting their roots. R2.50 for voice call.. that sucks. Now they want to charge for LTE.

Time for cell c to up their game and take sum market from both MTN and vodacom

A friend of mine, who is with them also requested LTE to be activated on his iPhone 5. They informed him of the 50 bucks a month charge.

After showing them his website and fighting this with them - LTE has been activated on his contract without any costs.

There is NO cost for LTE. You just need an LTE capable sim (128K) and call 808 to activate you on the service.

That's all well and good, can't find ANY stores with 128k SIM's. So far tried:

Nicolway, Fourways mall(both stores), fourways crossing, Cresta and Randburg

None have the SIM's

Lol@ reading at the script. How bad is it that a telecom call operator does not know what LTE is.
