Its IMPOSSIBLE to get a Prepaid LTE sim from MTN. Good luck finding one. The store manager is saying that they placed a order for simcards when it was launched and are still waiting for them to come. She said it might still be like 2 weeks before they get them.... SIGH

All the shops in my area "are waiting for the SIMs to arrive".

Anyone got a 128k Prepaid SIM yet, and if so where did you get it?

Yes the 3 stores I went to I spoke to the manager's and the on very nice manageress even showed me the books showing that the simcards are on order and she is pushing for it but it does not seem like MTN have made a lot of them or they have not distributed it as yet. She told me that I can most likely expect a wait of 2 to 3 weeks.

its a smart move.... as they will now rip you a new one.. (with the data you will consume)

The data will flow like "wahttaa"

I must say the pings are sweeeet on LTE, it is as close as you'll ever get to ADSL. (no other wireless tech can compare). It's stable as a rock too. Just don't move the router/LTE modem very far from the window

This is why you have to go prepaid. Can you imagine OOB if you're on contract.

Ok took a drive to 2 shops here in Richards Bay which is actually pretty well covered by LTE and I'm shocked at the lack of knowledge these people have....

First he tells me its not launched. I reply but it all over the web and Durban already have simcards. He replied saying that its a major area. He then informed me that the simcards will cost at least R100 each if not more. Then he told me it will only work on LTE modems or routers and with loaded data bundles. He the finished off by telling me Richards Bay is not covered by LTE at all even though I actually showed him my old contract simcard that is now prepaid picking up LTE in their store.

I don't understand how MTN employs these people that just take the job for money and no real interest in the job. I mean I actually advised him on the facts.... I feel sorry for customers that don't know about these things because they will be misled even more....

Banana republic can be better. This is communist regime with built-in racial and gender preferencial system as a tool to preserve power.

And its just not working honestly.... I mean I have no experience in that field but I can teach them a thing or two about LTE and how their own products work. Sad very sad.

Finally after like a month got my hands on the prepaid LTE simcards. They have completely changed them and all new simcards will only be LTE 128k simcards. It will take a while for the LTE simcards to filter through to retailers though.

I'm so far from the tower. About 2.5KM as the crow flies with no LOS even if I stand on the roof. Only 1 bar 4G on Huawei LTE Mifi and I have to force it to 4G only otherwise it switches back to 2G but the speed and stable connection is simply amazing to be honest.

What a pleasure to game on it. 200ms to Germany in league of Legends and just updated my nvidia drivers quickly....

Can't believe they took so long but its truely amazing to use. MTN PAYG is the way to go. I got 3 simcards. 1 in my S5, 1 in my iPhone 5 and 1 in my Huawei LTE mifi I keep for gaming. I got a 13Mbps adsl line but still prefer to game on the LTE connection because the ping is just better no matter what ISP.

I'm not breaking ANY speed records, but I'm not planning to because I'm simply too far from the tower. To give you guys a idea about my distance and thechies will know this. The Cellc tower is right next to the MTN and on my iPhone the Cellc gets MAX 2 bars of signal. So we know how far Cellc signal can travel but that is just an idea of how far the tower really is and how good LTE is to give such a stable latency no matter the distance connection speed....

Where do i find pricing for LTE?

It does not cost more. You just need to buy normal data bundles if you are using LTE on prepaid. LTE is a technology just like 3G which affects data transfer speeds so price will depend on what bundle you buy.
