MTN network crashes

Had a few problems connecting but I though that was just the Christmas phone rush. Working fine atm.

MTN no network

If MTN crashed on saturday it was a good crash b'cause it was the first time we were able to make & reciev calls after 9,in Moletjie(Limpopo)you can't make calls from 7pm to 10pm during holidays/always error in connection, their call centre staff will only tell you to switch off ur phone,it does't work" ,we are sleepin late this side...

Remember that vodacom also suffer a crash / some downtime in the latter part of 2008 so this stuff happens. I was unaffected but several of my contacts sent some SMS's that never got delivered.

Something not right here.

/me thinks some 2 bit idiot from SABC crashed their phone then thinks the whole network is down:p.

Only place that has the story is News24 with exact same wording as MyBB. I'm calling this BS until proven otherwise.

A bit of journalistic scaring there ... the network did not crash. A crash is total failure, of ALL systems!

People throw the word "crash" around too loosely ... believe me, if MTN crashed, there would be bigger problems than some people not being able to phone or send an SMS

I had no network coverage for most of the day then recieved one sms about 5 times within 4 minutes. The data transfer was fine though.

I seem to be having these problems a lot more often lately.

Did not notice the "crash" but I did scream in frustration trying to VPN in to work via MTN but it was not any less suckier than normal. I have lost all faith in the media though, they do throw around words like "crash" far too easily, hell, in some cases I wonder if they actually know what they are saying. In CPT KFM and Cape Talk are really bad, they are in such a hurry to get the news out that they often get it wrong.

As much as I dislike MTN I do think the reporter should have checked their facts before publishing something like they did.

Bad Jurno...

Well, the one host on 702 was affected. His calls to someone picking him up at the airport wouldn't go through...

Yes because the Downtime was regional. The East Rand was effected.I couldn't do nothing.

I know it is in Afrikaans but this report is more thorough.

And NO! I had to use my land line to phone people at 17:00 so everything wasn't sorted out at 13:00

I think it was a LAZY network admin that didn't check his error reports and sat and "facebooked" or something while he should have been working! Some will say... "come on... it is Christmas" ... BS they make bucket loads of money and this shouldn't happen!

In the Beeld report... they say the average SMS`s sent per day is 8.5 million . I get charged 75c an sms so that will be R6.4 mill a day! Dammit I am in the wrong business! Then over this silly season it goes to 25 mil a day.... do the maths!

normal for us MTN subscribers by now, only the fudged numbers that makes MTN appear to be the "best" pfffffft yeah rite!

in the good ole 90's when Vodakomkom was still a lad and we used bricks for phones..they were regularly down, weak signal, stuttering breaking up etc etc etc so ja, the moment MTN had comparable products, I think it was 96, I switched and got a cool Nokia 2210i..gone with the brick (think it was motorola) and vodacom..for good.

MTN FTW!

You're probably drunk again... :p

I just havent ever seen any MTN stuff (contracts or whatever) that offers the same value as Vodacom stuff. Maybe I should check again...

You should. For the amount you pay per month mtn give you better phones.

loved the irony of the article page under related news" "mtn network crashes" and just below it "mtn scoops top award." could that be for the crash, pilgrim?:D:D
