MTN R189 for 2GB special delayed

shame poor MTN, just another classic example of how crap they are, cock up after cock up after cock up

surely heading towards becoming an also ran
 
This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.
Remember, MTN are the one's who are currently marketing their Uncapped Lite Packages
on TV as: "Basically" Limitless Internet.

MTN: Basically :wtf:
 
If they had any sense, they'd activate the special now.

Why do so many businesses in SA seem to have no concept at all of the power of unhappy customers/potential customers...

That's the thing though. When it comes to companies as big as these, this 'power' that we seem to think we have really isn't very powerful. Unfortunately, this will be soon forgotten (or as forgotten as possible), and MTN will continue to be the most valueable company/share in the country. It sucks, big time.

For sure, although considering there are more alternatives than there were before, I'd think they'd not be quite as complacent these days.
 
This would cause a shift in the Demand curve. Reduced demand at the current price as a result of a expected price drop.

A shift, for sure, but I'd be surprised if it's anything more than negligible.

The reduced price is only expected from us myBBians (as far as I know - I could very well be wrong) who read the news as it breaks. As loud as we shout and as much pull as the site seems to have these days, we still represent a very small portion of their customer base. Fortunately we probably include a disproportionately high number of power users, so maybe some effect will be felt. I doubt much though :/
 
Ok. So what do I get now? I have excellent MTN reception and speed where I live but according to 8ta's website I don't have 8ta coverage.

Any other prepaid options? I don't want to sign a contract. I already have 5 of those.

5? Damn. Nothing on mtn of any value I'm afraid. Value is unfortunately with 8ta.

Seems as if you and I are in the same boat on this.

The delay in running their 2GB promotion could actually be a good thing.

Mobile ISPs can go on about their deals but what is really NB is coverage.

So much about Cell C's coverage but until now I still have no 3G coverage. Even though my pad is covered in red on their coverage map I am still on EDGE.

My MTN signal strength is at 92% (that’s 5/5 bars) as I write this. For this I respect them.

Vodacom's coverage of my place is woeful.

The delay could actually be a good thing because their R189 for 2GB promotional offer was as ill conceived as their smartphone databundles.

Their prepaid databundles currently look like this:
10MB = R10
75MB = R49
300MB = R149
500MB = R189
1GB = R289
2GB = R389

Slotting in the 2GB for R189 offer would mean a complete restructuring of their prepaid data prices.

I suggest the following structure to incorporate the R189 = 2GB offer:
10 = free (naa, that won't happen)
10 = R5
75 = R35
300 = R59 (this beats BIS because I can use my data how I like)
500 = R109 (I am currently buying 500MB for R120 on 8ta roaming on MTN)
1GB = R149 (YES, on contract you get 2GB, I know. Thats why it is a contract)
2GB = R189 (best prepaid deal ever i.e. considering coverage - speaking for myself and maybe a few others)
 
MTN are waiting for the Telkom fine outcome. 8ta changed the face of mobile data forever.

Ok, so you say you are using 8ta roaming on MTN. Does that mean that you can use the 8ta data plans and use it where you have MTN coverage even if you don't get 8ta coverage?

I have excellent MTN coverage but no 8ta. Do you think I'll be able to get the 10 + 10GB 8ta and use it while roaming on MTN?
