MTN explains 8-hour data network outage

MTN says that a fault developed on its network after an upgrade, causing intermittent outages for data customers on Tuesday.

“Following an upgrade on a part of the MTN network last night, a fault developed this morning, resulting in some intermittent connectivity issues today,” MTN stated.

"resulting in some intermittent connectivity issues"

I'd say more than some. and it was more intermittent working than intermittent issues.

I kept losing data and thought I was going nuts. Also affected my parents in law's afrihost internet which uses an MTN Sim.

Have you ever upgraded systems of this size?

MTN are not a Mickey Mouse company, so they should be competent to handle the size of the upgrade, without screwing their customers over and costing them a further loss of a business day.

Business as usual in South Africa.

Would be interesting to have more information. Why did the upgrade fail? Why was an untested upgrade pushed into the network? If it was tested why did the testing not pick up the problem?

Maybe Huawei sold that they can do in service upgrades no problem and they found out the reality is quite different :D
