MTN Steppa smartphone for R499

OS

Android 2.3.5 (Ginger Bread)

Great price but introducing a phone in 2014 with Android 2.3.5 (Ginger Bread)? More like they ordered it from some outdated Chinese sweat shop factory.

MTN Exclusive Apps

AVG Anti Virus [Find Phone]
AVG kills battery life on performance on a single processor phone.

Not half bad when you compare the specs to the Galaxy Pocket. Ugly as sh*t though.

For people who CAN'T afford a R1000 phone,this is a great phone

I guess it doesn't matter if it has gingerbread on it, facebook and whatsapp will still run.

And now they have GPS and google maps.

What improvement will there be if the software was upgraded? Would people notice the difference with that display and hardware?

The phone was most likely already developed long before kitkat.

This phone will have little appeal to myBB members. Does not mean there is not a huge market out there who are itching to get into the Smartphone world and are willing to spend one month's worth of income on getting one.

I think it's a great step forward for ZA and we should see more coming along.

This.

its a nice step forward I agree.

and Gingerbread is what will kill this phone but not because it was bad or unstable or old. well sort of not because its old.

so you are one of the poor saps stuck with a BB and hating it, but you "need" bbm, so you buy this knowing you can install BBM for andrid on it.

WRONG

BBM needs at least 4.2.2 to be installed. its a bad app I know and people should just use one of the other one million chat applications out there, BUT people still want BBM, so they will try and be disappointed, then they will try root and flash to get a new rom that will run BBM, and that will just brick the phone 90% of the time because there will not be a walkthrough for an MTN branded phone.

but hey, at least the Cheapest Android on the market is actually a budget phone and not last years flagship wearing CROCS and calling its self a budget phone. I'm looking at you mister 5c[rap]

WhatsApp.

You get what you pay for - at the price, it is fantastic for low income earners. Ideal for Blackberry users to migrate up in technology :D
