MTN subscriber numbers decline; RICA blamed

Perhaps they should look at their shocking service, faulty data counters and faulty billing systems before pointing fingers at Rica.

I am seeing last months calls being billed at full price while I had free minutes remaining at the end of last month, and still have minutes this month. MTN's response is you can only complain once you have been billed and paid them.

+1 on that! when my contract end, I will be one of them jumping ship, just out of principal.

+10

It NEVER connects the first time , and some numbers to cell c it says that the number does not exist, but it connects first time from my vc phone.

True! the amount of starter packs in the shops haven grown(there was a time Cell C starter pack was R10.00 because of the free min's deal....Simcard sales are going go down.....

How can they blame RICA for a drop in almost a million subscribers? As a new subscriber you would have to provide your personal details before you are connected to the network therefore this would only lead to a slow down in new subscribers not a drop in existing customers who still have time to provide their details.

Or as mentioned perhaps criminals are losing their phones... we can only hope! Just make sure you hide yours!

I am jumping ship ASAP. Worst experience EVER!

RICA?
lol, it's not because of RICA it's because they're s**t!

+2 (one for me & one for my dad).

My dad had a contract for a couple of years now at MTN, and now he wanted a second SIM for his car kit. He explicitly told the MTN branch (in Stellenbosch) not to deactivate his current sim. A few days later he got the new sim, but the original one was deactivated.
Other than that, we've experienced lots of connectivity issues earlier this year where we couldn't even receive calls.

My guess is that the decline in subscribers isn't due to RICA but rather due to poor service delivery.

Having an MTN contract has been the most painfull 2 years of using a cellphone that I have experienced to date.

My contract expired today at 12h00 and it actually brought a little smile to my face to see the simcard registration failed message :)

took me 15 minutes to get a prepaid sim the other day. RICA for you.

Same here, i'm also tired of MTN charging me with "promotional fees" , bad coverage in major cape town areas and lack ethics with that MTN15 competion that conned the public (including me).

2011 can't come quick enough so I can get off my contract to goto Vodacom.

RICA is so inappropriate at this time of economic difficulty as it hurts the small retail stores and hinders low-income people from getting access. It should have been put on hold until the economy picks up. The benefits (checking criminals etc) are minimal compared with the hardship and I am sure criminals can easily still find ways to connect anyway.

On MTN service - unspeakable. I have problems every month and just waiting for the right handset before I jump ship.

Most Terrible Network has not been able to RICA me due to their systems down. After 3rd try I eventually gave up. Off contract, but still looking for a good deal/phone ---- grrr..

Our 2 MTN contracts have expired, unfortunately we have to wait until 5 Jan 2010 before we can port to Vodacom prepaid. Did our previous upgrades early.

My son, on pre-paid will port as well.

MTN -3
Vodacom +3

Well i've cancelled a contract with MTN 2 months ago, can't wait to get out of the existing one i still have .

This had nothing to do with RICA, just the last straw for me. MTN has been a frustrating crappy mess for the last year. Bad billing, Bad service, Bad network, Bad Pricing and Offerings, Bad Press, Bad Marketing, Bad PR, Bad Business Negotiations , Bad Bad Bad.

I'm not surprised with all the "bad", that MTN can't even process RICA forms out of a paperbag with a bazooka and a katana.

Did MTN actually do anything good this last year? If they're not ripping us off with illegal lottery competitions, they're overbilling while having constant "technical difficulties" ...
