MTN Uncapped Lite throttled since 2012/02/01

How is R300 for basically 256kbps uncapped mobile internet comparable with R500 for 384kbps uncapped ADSL? It's a very different product. (BTW a 384kbps ADSL line cannot go up to 50KBps, it peaks at around 40KBps)

Hey Guys

okay so as I said in my previous posts I have not been throttled YET. So far this month I've downloaded and uploaded 60.5GB. Still getting my normal speeds, all day and all night. I game when i get home online, and throughout the night I download so for some reason I don't seem to be getting throttled, I will take some pics and upload of speed test and bandtwith monitor, but is anyone else experiencing this? I'm not complaining or bragging, I just want to know????

Please do send us the pictures of the upload and download speeds. Some people are getting throttled, others not, which is quite weird to say the least. 60GB is impressive! Are you on the Lite or the Pro?
 
what is the RAS VS NDIS it is n setting under setup when running mtn online.?
 
RAS - use modem driver (normal dial-up connection)
NDIS - use network adapter driver
Different ways to access the same physical device. Chose one which works the best.
 
Gaming on MTN Uncapped Lite - Throttled

Hi,

What sort of Ping's does one get on MTN Uncapped Lite, before you are capped, and do they change once you are capped. Are your Pings, the same regardless of whether you are capped or not.

Can anyone say if the 256kb/s you get capped to, is able to support a single CSS (Counter-Strike Source) connection to a local server?

I think 256Kbps is not impressive (more like 100ms-200ms) to local servers.

If you aren't throttled though, surely your latency should be way better than that.
 
Unless they shape as well as throttle then pings shouldn't take a big dip. To be honest though, gaming on 3G of any kind is not a very pleasant experience unless you have perfect reception.

Well I get around 6-8MB/s downloads at current location ... , on MTN, how does that compare to "perfect reception"?
 
Gaming needs a fairly stable ping, and the problem with 3G is that it does spike if you don't have very good reception.

You'll get fine ping to local servers but ultimately what matters is how often you spike and how bad those spikes are. The better your reception the less frequent and noticeable the spikes.
 
Ping for Local CS:S servers [gaming on MTN]

I have just recently purchased the MTN uncapped lite package and i chose the USB huawei method over the router.
Someone previously enquired about the latency/ping for gaming. I play competitive CS:S, I am the Captain of the 2nd nAv gaming squad. I usually use my uncapped 1mbps mweb connection to play resulting in about 20-30 ms latency. I played the whole of yesterday using my 3g stick from MTN and I received a pretty constant 100ms ping, it was entirely playable and a very enjoyable gaming session. I would recommend this product to any gamer who can't get his/her hands on a stable line or doesn't want to go through the missions of setting up a land line etc.

Oh yes, the main point of this reply, i got that 100ms ping [pretty constant too] with only 1 bar of reception [I stay in Glenwood, durban]. I can't imagine what the latency would be like with full reception.

Has anyone been throttled yet? If so, what is the latency like?
