Or just remain where you are at the same price you are paying now

Rob, have you received a new bill since your Broadband Lite has been out-of-contract and what does it say you're being billed for? Have they automatically converted your package to one of their newer uncapped offerings?

This is the direct link to MTN's subscriber terms and conditions https://mycontract.mtn.co.za/subscriber/tc/susbcriberTC.htm?lang=en

It appears to say the contract will continue indefinitely unless cancelled by the contract holder or by MTN in writing:

CONTRACT STARTING DATE, RENEWAL AND CANCELLATION
2.1. This Contract will start on the date of Activation of a SIM Card issued to you by MTN SP ("commencement date") and will, subject to clause 7 below, continue for the Initial Contract Period. At the end of the Initial Contract Period this Contract will continue automatically on a month to month basis, unless renewed by you in writing, or cancelled:
2.1.1. by you, at the end of the Initial Contract Period or a Contract Renewal Period, as the case may be, by giving to MTN SP a written notice (not via SMS) of cancellation not less than 1 (one) calendar month and not more than 3 (three) calendar months before the end of the Initial Contract Period or Contract Renewal Period, as the case may be; or
2.1.2. by MTN SP, if it chooses to do so, immediately on written notice to you; or
2.1.3. by MTN SP, immediately on written notice to you, if the sub-license issued by the Operator in terms of which MTN SP is authorised and empowered to give you access to the Network Services, is cancelled for whatever reason.

Received an sms from MTN that my contract will be ending in March. I'm also going to go with adsl uncapped. Telkom has the simple uncapped package for R514 per month with installation and you just have to stick with it for a minimum of 3 months and thereafter it's month to month.

Anyone having issues since yesterday morning?

Yesterday from around 06:30 to 08:00 my network type was WCDMA and I couldn't access the net. It then changed back to HSPA+ and all was well. At around 16:00 it changed back to WCDMA and it's been like that ever since. Can't do anything.

This is the first time in many months that I had any kind of problem. Anyone else struggling with this?

I am having a slightly different problem, my contract expired around September last year and everything has been functioning as usual, up until today.

I noted today that I have far exceeded the 3gig (up to around 10 gig) and that I am still at maximum speed.

Should I be concerned?

Well, lucky you! I've had this contract for about 18 months now and that NEVER happened to me.

hmm, definitely a first! I am wondering of there is going to be a surprise invoice for additional usage or something similar?

Oh well, will fight that fight when I have to!

@SwaarMetaal: Yes I also had issues yesterday. Connection faded in and out for a while and then failed for a few hours
After coming back online later in the afternoon the speed went up to maximum, as in Drastik's case and has remained there. This has occurred a few times during my Broadband Lite contract (contract expired last month so I am on month-to-month). As there are no other uncapped 3G contracts I don't plan to cancel anytime soon. We are in a more rural area and ADSL is not supported here.

Its supposed to throttle you, however, this was not just some switched that we flipped for each site, its equipment we had to implement.

You say your contract expired last month, did MTN contact you in any way? If so, what did they say? My contract will unfortunately expire at the end of July this year and I'm also a bit screwed after that.

When you get billed at the end of Feb, or whenever you do, will you please post here again just to confirm if everything remained the same. I will be EXTREMELY happy if one can continue with this contract on a month-to-month basis.

Applied for the Simple uncapped on friday. Its now R549. Hope I get the line and ADSL before my Uncapped lite contract ends. I will probably leave MTN entirely when my cell contract ends as well.

My contract expired earlier this month. Nobody has phoned me yet and I am getting throttled speeds at the moment.
Will see how it turns out this month.

Are you not scared they start charging you out of bundle rates from when your contract ended?

My contract expired late last year and I did not cancel. Everything still works the same (same speeds, same bill).
