MTN Unilimited mobile broadband - does it add value?

Ok so the article states that you can max it out to 80GB a month in DL/UL. (absolute bollocks but lets accept that as a fact for now) Who would be willing to put money on it that if they have a fair use policy of 3GB, the very first person to go up to 80GB is gonna get charged R2.00/MB after 30GB. "Oh no you misunderstood. It is uncapped, but that doesnt mean you can use as much as you want."

Kinda like Telkom went and started billing for local after the ADSL regs stated that local must not be counted towards the cap.
 
The connection does not matter, you could be on HSDPA 14.4, the cap is a soft cap so your speeds are throttled on their servers. And for the last time, its 30GB!!! not 80GB!!!

LOL! 30 GB or 80GB ... I'm leaning towards 30 GB ... but who cares ... I really don't want to have to leave my PC on 24/7 just to get that amount ... by the time you have downloaded the movie you want it will probably be showing on MNet!

Why even month-2-month ??
Just pay for some data and only have to top up once it is all used.
Compare this to the petrol in you car. You want speed - buy an expensive car, you want to go far - buy a lot of petrol, but let us decide when to put in R50, R200 or R250.
That's why I like G-Connect, very flexible !!

128kps? you got to be kidding me! if you getting uncapped for over R700pm I would expect at least 10gb
 
The 24 month contract is a problem as well as the 128kbps after 3gb. Why don't they at least make it 384kbps ?
 
No No No. This is simply going to catch a lot of people/consumers who are not able to distinguish where the problem lies in this "fantastic offer" i.e. (sorry to sound repetitive) 128kbps after using 3gb AND the 24 month restriction to change or improve. No No No
 
Surely this is only a "good" deal for people that can't get ADSL line & like to download alot.
Surely that's not a large percentage of users?

I only use 3G - most of the time 2GB/month/R389 sometimes 4GB/month/R778.
Theres no point in me signing a 24month contract for R700/month
I'd rather move over to ADSL now + use less 3G
This new offer = FAIL
 
No. You guys got it all wrong!

MTN added these new contracts / subscription options as they aren't fudging up the billing to a satisfactory degree and have introduced the above so it would add further confusion and chaos.

Haven't you guys noticed? MTN loves chaos and confusion.

9 Years and I'm still waiting for my statement to add up to my actual usage. Even the IVR gives me a different subscription list and balance to those provided by MTN Active and the 808 agents. Never the same...

I agree, this might be a reasoneable deal for people like me that live way outside the reach of ADSL. Unless some miracle wireless replacement for fixed line appear I'm afraid most of the population would probably have to forget to get internet the 'cheap' way, via ADSL. And I am one of those unfortunate people that live way out of reach of ADSL. Please correct me if I am wrong, but as far I know only 15% of the population of S-Africa live within reach of ADSL.

Signing up for a 24-month contract is pure madness, especially with the prices changes we've seen the last 8 months. Hopefully when EASSEy, WACS etc goes into full service we would see more competition and more bandwidth which would hopefully drive down prices.

My guess is that we might eventually (10-15 years from now) see some sort of uncapped wireless offers in S-Africa. It might even be an truely uncapped 512k, even 1mb with no useage limits.
