ok will do but I tried this before I read your post
changed the sim card settings to auto from WCDMA on my laptop through the MTN manager
settings, I rebooted my desktop with linux & tried again as before.
roy@roy-desktop ~/scripts $ sudo ./usbmodem.sh
[sudo] password for roy:
insmod /lib/modules/3.16.0-41-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/serial/usbserial.ko
insmod /lib/modules/3.16.0-41-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/serial/usb_wwan.ko
insmod /lib/modules/3.16.0-41-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/serial/option.ko

connected but with a green light only and similar strength to the old modem and unable
to stay connected, have to re-connect after a few minutes constantly.
I have the same problem with the old modem even with the sim card set to WCDMA, I still
only get a green light
hi again, sorry for the delay
yes it did connect but I tried several times and it never connects when it's in
WCDMA and that is the primary reason I bought a new modem because my old
modem had the same green light and bad signal issues (just as this one does)
although it does work great in my windows laptop when I change to WCDMA but it
won't even connect in Linux.
If I change the setting from WCDMA to Automatic the new modem will run in my
linux but it's only green (edge) and the same on the Windows laptop which really
doesn't solve any problems as that's why I changed the modem in the first place.
The Window laptop is next to my Linux desktop so It's not a poor reception issue
otherwise it wold effect both the same.
Unfortunately there is no way to change the settings without the MTN Manager which
is a Windows application I think and doesn't load in Linux .
edit..Thinking about it now it would appear as though Linux or specifically Mint doesn't
recognize WCDMA but it does see the modem, don't know if that's possible.
Here is the results that you asked for
