MTN VS. VODACOM

cool. well the downside of being part of a huge cell company is that you are just a number they dont 'care' if customers are happy

Who gives you the phone you want at the best price on a package that suits you? They do not reward me for loyalty so I move where I get the best deal.

Same here! I ported from Vodacom to MTN to get N95 for free because Vodacom wanted R2999. I have no issues with MTN apart from poor reception and lack of 3G in my house.

Whoever gives me the best deal on HTC Touch Pro or Diamond will be my cellular provider for next 24 months.

my point still stands vodacom have more customers in south africa than mtn do forget africa there is not much of a choice in cellular companies in africa so yeah mtn would rule there, however 34 million is way more than mtn in this country

so you would think then, that a company as big as VC with so many customers, making such a killing every single minute of the day, would at least spend some of its freeking profit to make really great company with great offers, but NOOOOO, they are the biggest and just like Telkom in the old days used to say, We are it, so if u want something, come to us and after we've violated you for a few years, we will deem you fit to be a good customer, and we'll lie to your face and steal all your money (Pat on the head)

Have you guys seen th special offers you get in europe and USA... WOW!
Totally jealous! they practically pay you to take out a contract with them!
really cool:cool:

Forget about what phone is a better deal, if you have no network to log onto even the best handset on earth is pretty much bloody useless!

Vodacom beats MTN hands down!

Vodacom constantly strive to improve and upgrade their network. For example here in Stilbaai Vodacom have EDGE, 3G & HSDPA. MTN have plain vintage 1994 GPRS!

Locally Riversdale and Albertinia both have EDGE, 3G & HSDPA in the same areas MTN have guess what? You guessed right! 1994 vintage GPRS.

So if you live in a big city and you are never ever going to get in your car and drive more than 20km outside of town, you'll be just fine on MTN.

MTN seem to have a policy of if it aint broke don't fix it!

Network quality is dependent on where you stay. We have miserable service with Vodacom in Jhb and Durban (can anyone say total network failure) and far better service with MTN, also MTN offers Edge in most places which makes up for the fact that neither network offers 3G where I live. I've recently experienced such incredibly bad customer service from Vodacom that I'm never going to go with them again. MTN is hardly perfect, billing errors every few months, for me, who is the lesser of two evils? It appears to be MTN. And Vodacom advertising sucks, especially that stupid new summer ad, not that MTN's advertising is brilliant, it's just less embarrassing, lest we forget the Vodacom rat.

EDIT: Although I'm sure there are folks here who've also received shocking service from MTN, so at the end of the day we all probably just choose the one who least annoys us - unless there's someone here who actually loves their network?

MTN network crashed in Jongensfontein 26th December 2007 and speedy MTN fixed it 16th January 2008. A month later the MTN franchise packed up their tent and went walkabout!

Vodacom or should that be Vodafone now? Do at least sort out network problems in a timely fashion either the same or next day dependant on the severity of the problem!

I wouldn't say I love Vodacom but they sure as hell beat the other two no-contest!

Vodacom is inferior - PTA east

I recently ported from MTN to Vodacom to get an iPhone, and I can honestly say that I had better data/voice quality on MTN. Most of Faerie Glen in Pretoria east has nothing better than GPRS on Vodacom (look at their coverage map to confirm). I regularly find myself in areas in and around PTA which are on GPRS. With MTN I had a far superior data experience, better signal at home and less call drops in general (using the same handset, i.e. prior to activation on Vodacom I used my MTN sim in the iPhone).

vodacom has better signal? i honestly think thats is BS! okay, maybe before the 3g and that stupid v-live was introduced it has the best coverage/signal, but after that in the past 3 years with vodacom, whenever im in 3g coverage i dont pick up any signal that allows me to make or receive calls most of the time, and sometimes the call get cut after few second, and i have enough complaint from my customers saying that they were not be able to reach me on my phone and i end up like having 20 voice mails in 1 day, and its not my sim card or phone thats faulty coz i have changed to new one after experincing those problem, and it still doesnt help, all my customers/friends have also complained about the same issue, at least with my other mtn contract, i dont have these problems. usually when you pay for more u expect for better service, unfortuantelly vodacom is more exensive and worse service!

I started with MTN and really found their customer service bad, then i switched to vodacom. Been with vodacom for the last 29 or so months and heres what my view on the matter.

Vodacom has better customer service but thats really about it. Oh lets not forget the millionaire show thingy and cool ads:)

I couldnt give a toss how many customers either company has, when i buy my new phone im going with the one that gives me the best deal. And i was quite suprised to find that MTN's deals are much much much better than vodacoms. So im switching to MTN again.

Whoever get stock of HTC Touch Pro first will let myself and my wife and everyone I know migrate to.

I learnt in economics about market economies, but recently I've learnt that it should rather be called greed economies. Why do some people want more that they can spend and often in some way to the expense of others?

Both Vodacom and MTN can afford to spend a bit more on Network management and a bit more on customer service agent training. But they rather would spend as little as possible.

Better is NOT the enemy of good enough!

Hmmm tough one. With MTN you get the service you pay for in my experience but then you get over/double billed for it. With Vodacom you are billed correctly but don't get the service (BIS) you are paying for.

werent there surveys that showed mtn had better quality transmission gear and therefore always won the yearly "voice quality" competitions???? vaguely remember something like that.

been with mtn for 15 years with zero issues. the wife has been with vodacom for years with issues.
for me the mtn voice quality wins, but their data services are not as good as vodas, which is why i have a voda data contract

after 10 years with MTN, i can finally port.... Cant wait to do so. MTN is pathetic, Dropped calls, expensive, useless service....

Go Vodacom, I know I will
