MultiChoice decoder ‘hacking’ causes a stir

Well, I'll be back in SA next year, and bring back 2 dishes which I have installed. One motorised 1.5m with Dreambox and one 90cm with 4 LNBs with DBOX2. Both work like a dream, excuse the pun.

But from the info you gave me, it will be very sad if I cannot use any of them.
Also from what I know is that IRDETO 2 has not been cracked yet....sad as well.:o
 
Guess what, they're trying the same tricks as American companies do to consumers who mod their own stuff. Except here they can do f-all as we thankfully don't have DMCA **** laws.

Anybody know somebody with a 2.4m dish ?? I would be interested to hear what channels they pick up and off which Sat.

I heard there are sim sharing services out there though for IRDETO ....(obviously highly illegal)

There are some "interesting" channels but other then that I don't think there is anything to get too excited about ;)

Yes, the idea is you buy a special card-reader which takes your original Multichoice card. This reads the card and transmits the codes/keys via wi-fi to an adapter card in your decoder slot.

You can then use another adapter in another decoder (or in theory on your neighbours decoder as long as it is in range:D ) and watch all the channels available on your original card.

One problem here is that the Multichoice encryption gets tougher with every card release. So if you buy a new card now, it might not be readable on the car-splitter-transmitter. [This is all illegal by-the-way so this is purely for information only.]

I bought my DSTV primarily for movies. When I finaly got my wife to agree that I buy one, I found out that was the worst mistake I've ever done. There are simply NO CHOICES with multichoice!!! You see one movie on all the channels for the whole year! I think I should start smoking and/or drinking, maybe there's more entertainment there.
 
What peeves me is that i can't pick and choose channel bundles like you can in most other markets. I don't want MTV, KTV and all that nonsense...

I am fairly sure this would not be illegal. Maybe contrary to any contract you have with Multichoice, but if you can decode signals beaming around you that is your good luck. I unfortunately cannot find a reference to it but there was a case ( in the 80's? ) where someone had decrypted the M-Net feed, and won when taken to court. Selling devices to enable it, or helping others to do it *might* be illegal. You would NOT be allowed to rebroadcast the TV signal.

I might be wrong though, with all these new Acts coming out!

some questions as this is all knew to me.
does this mean one can watch dstv for free?
what do you need to get installed?
do you stil need a dstv decoder and dish?
and any other helpfull info would be much appreciated.

i tried mostly all the sattelites on the lynsat page last night (pas7/10 and pas10) and only the free religion channels worked the others picked up signals of various strenghs but showed nothing, so all the so called free stuff isn't worth bothering about unless you ultra religionist....

time 2 get a skysat card some decoding program and bye bye nochoice. don't care anymore if it's legal or not,i just want it for me!
 
you know what i dont understand with things like this from multichoice, and other things where people complain about something that was "made public" or advertised... say they didnt say anything about it, only about 1000 people in east london would've known about it, of which about 150 would've tried to do what the pamflet says and then about 100 would've actually gotten it right and tell a friend about it so resulting in about 200 people getting the free channels. now they go and complain about it and make big fuss about it, so half the broadband community (like 50000 people propably) plus a whole lot of other people also now know about it that in the past would've propably never even knew about it. most people i know thats now gone and tried it took out some old decoder and dish so its also a lot of people that multichoice dont even get money from anymore. so what have they actually achieved? why not just 'let it slide' ??

Well all the super sport channels are even more nonsense unless you are some sport fanatic and even if you are not you still have to subsidise the fanatics.

Dreambox or Dbox 2 use emulators and keys to descramble encrypted satellite signals. Problem is, is that they do not, yet and if ever, descramble the DSTV IRDETO encrypted signal.

However, if the boxes could descramble the signal, all you would need is a dish (pointing to Pas7/10) and the above box to do the job for you. But, I must point out that encryption keys change from every day to every week and must be updated manually or via LAN (HTTP).

The above process is very widely used in europe, (excluding SKY UK as their encryption is hard to crack) where the major encryptions have been cracked.

You can also get Botswana TV the same way and that has some nice movies on it.
 
need information on dstv hacking please can i know if any one can assist?
 
You know, for R400 a month , you can get a really useful contract at places like Mr Video/DVD@home . Especially if you consciously take out a R400 contract, i did that now just to see how it turns out compared to not having DSTV. It works out at about R12-R14 for a new DVD [=about 30 new movies = a new movie EVERY DAY of the month! ..and you can choose] . PLUS all these movie rentals have the latest series on there too [i.e. Prison Break and Lost etc] ...nothing like watching a series without the weekly breaks and all the ads ;).

..and then there's the cheaper prices on older movies...so all that i actually miss on DSTV at this stage is seeing the SA Cricket team LOOSE and the SA rugby team LOOSE and maybe a few super 14 matches where we also loose.
CNN/BBC i can read on the web, and i enjoy Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno on Saturday Nights on CNBC..but that's not enough to pay R400 for ;)
