I know I will be flamed for saying this, but I do not think it is that excessive. I do not smoke, only drink every now and then, do not buy magazines and the last time I went to the movies was the end of last year. To take a family of four for a single movie these days will probably cost more than R400 when you inlude the popcorn and coke. I do not have the slightest idea what the price of cigarettes are these days, but I am quite sure that it will most probably come to more than that per month. DSTV satifies my entertainment needs at a price that I am prepared to pay. In my opinion people that complains about the number of repeats are spending way too much time in front of their TV.Completely agree. By the way what Multichoice charge borders on robbery
Fair enough, I just got sick of the re runs and crap all the time. I now have ADSL and YES I download whatever I want to watch.I know I will be flamed for saying this, but I do not think it is that excessive. Randburg - In another colossal misstep with the HD-PVR range of set top devices, Multichoice have, with the latest software release, re-introduced many of the older bugs back into the UEC DSR4660 (aka UEC HD-PVR 4T). No features other than some cosmetic changes were introduced.
It would appear that the wrong branch of the source code repository was used to compile the new release, and no field testing was conducting. Sources close to Multichoice are puzzled at this recent turn of events and suggest that the problems are due to senior level management in-fighting.
Some of the issues (re)introduced into the new release include:
- Surround Sound no longer works
- HDMI/HDCP problems
- EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) failing to update
- Scheduled records failing to occur
- Hard crashes requiring a front panel reset
- Trick Modes (i.e. Rewind, Fast Forward) failing to operate smoothly and correctly
- Audio failures when exiting Trick Modes
- Remote control less responsive
It is hoped by HD-PVR users that a better version of the software will be released in the very near future, but Multichoice remains as unresponsive as always.
source?!?
Dont come post this kind of crap on here without proof...
You want proof, come have a look at my 2 UEC's . One dismantled totally and you will see what crap is in there. The Chinese won't even use it. That is from someone that work in the industry. The Hard Drive is one of the slowest on the market, it battles running my old XP machine. The resistors and caps are rated at 10%. In new electronics you don't touch anything over 1%. You want source there is a lot.![]()
And that crappy hardware has what to do with the fact that he was asking for the source to the topic in question i.e latest software release is buggy?
edit - oh and everything is made in china so im sure they had a hand in it![]()
Whahahaha, omg, dude, are you being serious?!You want proof, come have a look at my 2 UEC's . One dismantled totally and you will see what crap is in there. The Chinese won't even use it. Those are the worst 'sources' I've ever come across. Resistor and cap tolerance blah blah, slow HD, blah blah. Clearly someone who has no clue about electronics.
In engineering, a major design rule is 'don't over engineer'. If 10% tolerance resistors/caps can work, then so be it. If a 'slow' HD works, then by all means, use that. No point in using high quality components if there is no need. If they did, then you'd be crying that its too expensive.
Why I want a source, is that stuff like this actually will hurt a companies rep. And it does hurt UEC's rep regardless whether its MC's problem. If it is a firmware issue, it could by all means be a UEC problem, they could've released a buggy firmware upgrade? If so, then fair enough.
Enlighten meYes and the latest SW is even have more bugs.
Source see MC forums, Hellopeter, radio etc and even this forum.
Enlighten me
Mc forums - couldnt find anything - granted they have a way of removing posts
hellopeter - **** load of complaints but in spread across all the decoders, their call centre, billing problems etc - we are well aware of this but nothing specificaly referg to the UEC software problem
radio - never realy heard any complaints about dstv at all, granted i only listen to 5fm but hey you did not specify
and finaly this forum - 1 post this one there are hundreds of older posts bu we are refering to this one in particular claiming that the latest software relase has gone backwards.
One of the complainant had even given his unit to MC in Randburg to test.
Now i for one do not work for with or for MC or UEC and would just like to see a source of the complaint.
hell i complain about my pace decoder all the time and how sucky it is, but at least my source would be personal experiance, the person who started the thread posts it like an article hence the request for a source
http://forum.dstv.com/showthread.php?p=93906#post93906 - Part of the thread on DSTV with the new UEC SW problems plus other threads. I have counted about 5 people with surround sound problems.
I will be the source as I had all the symptoms on both my UEC, except for the one which I have stripped now.
Next door neighbor all the symptoms and my brother in George.
Problem were discussed on Cape Talk.
Note this is for 3 weeks now.
Only "improvement" was after the upgrade my unit does not reset by itself all the time, but it locks up totally and then it needs a force reset. On the stripped one I improved it by replacing a few of the 10% components etc especially PSU (MC will probably lock me up for this) and it worked better and by adding a PC fan until I blew it up totally, that's why I tried to use the HD in my standby PC.
my point still stands no reliable source for suposed article. except the suround sound problem, which i recall seeing somewhere on this thread
person who started this thread INK has not even replied, now
Official Quote from MC:
Hi
Thank you to all our forumites who brought to our attention, problems that were being experienced with the upgrade. MultiChoice would like to re-iterate that this concern is our top priority and while we may not necessarily post feedback everyday, it does not mean we are not working on a resolution. On the contrary we are looking into all alternatives to fix the problem, and have ensured that this is also a top priority with our suppliers.
We hope to shortly advise you of the way forward and sincerely thank you for your patience- we know this is frustrating.
They have even indicated that they might rollback to the previous SW
