Multichoice launches XtraView

I really don't want to think this hard, this has be to the most confusing balls up DSTV has ever made. For one calling the new HD PVR a PVR is misleading because it does not support dual view, and now extra view is supposedly filling that gap until the other HD PVR coming out at a later stage I hear will have the dual view built in ? Now you have to buy more crap like quad LNB's and multiswitches, just more stuff for the Installers to talk you dumb and rip you off with.

Bravo DSTV !

How can you say the HD PVR is not a PVR when it does PRECISELY what a PVR is meant to do and that is record a channel while you are watching a different channel?

I'm not trying to defend DSTV here, I think they're a bunch of sharks.. but attack them with true and facts rather than heresay and such...

Looked around DSTV.COM to find nothing on this XtraView package so I gave their customer help line a call and found out the following

- It launches on the 25th of this month
- You require TWO DSD 1110 decoders, it doesn't work with any others
- You do require an extra LNB and the guy mentioned that his price list to upgrade to a dual LNB said roughly R900 but that may be incorrect
- DSD 1110 is not HD

The LNB (Low Noise Block) is the little elbow piece hanging in front of the Dish, single LNB (one cable) twin LNB (2x cables), don't get confused with dual LNB (a twin LNB is exactly like 2x single LNBs) a dual LNB is like a splitter, or plugging into the LNB Out of the 1st Decoder.

The LNB it self is what makes the dish, so if a single LNB dish voucher cost you R700, then buying a single LNB on its own without the dish, you will pay ~ R600. So I would then just add a whole other dish. Same goes with the twin LNB dish.

Of course if you are getting curious about what is *out* there. Then have a look at lyngsat.com, you will be surprised what else you can pick up for free.

;)

So for the two decoders and this LNB thing I am still gonna pay around R1700 in total then? :(

The existing dual view and new HD PVR is said to work together to create a thre way system. We will have to wait and see.

Can anyone confirm the fact that a dual LNB costs an additional R900? If this is the case, then it is not very appealing at all.

Well, R250 sounds much better. That makes just over a grand for the whole package...
