Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this, my dsl connection drops about 5-6 times a day? On the Sunward Park exchange... Perhaps it is my isp, SAOL?

Could be your ISP - how much of your cap have you used?

Still got a gig left

Well I think that is your problem. When you get closer to your cap, that disconnect more often to prevent you from going over and being charged.

This was discussed in this forum last month so do a search and find it (I'm too lazy now :p ).

You can stop this by contacting them and taking responsibilty for your cap i.e. you will pay for the extra bandwidth when you go over your cap.

Yeah, it would be nice if the frikkin' ISPs would actually tell you this, instead of you freaking out about your dodgy connection.

I don't know if this is the same issue but about 3 times a day I get disconnected. I either have to reboot my modem or just pull out the telephone connection for a few seconds to get the connection working again.

Mine isn't that bad, it just drops the connection and then redials, I've got it set as a connection that req's a username and password in windows.

3 or 4 times a day I'll sit down and it'll say that it's reconnected

I'm with SAOL currently and don't have a problem with the 'early warning' system they have. But I'm being disconnected about 40 to 60 times a day. More on weekends. This started even before the new Telkom billing system. After getting the guys out 3 times in the last month to test the line they say it has to be the ISP. Small question: If it's the ISP why is the phone line totally dead for up to 2 hour? Thanks Telkom I'll be paying my bill with a smile......

p700 thats a telkom issue. (i think) SAOL will only handle the authentication on their radius server. I would have a techy come out and do a COMPLETE test on that line. I have come across cases where I can still make phone calls out on the ADSL line, but the line kept dropping. On the 3rd attempt at calling a telkom techie out, they resolved the issue.

Just read through the other thread gkm pointed out...

I would have loved it if SAOL actually told me about this policy, shocking that they did't, thats the second rather important fact that they have left me in the dark about, it's getting a little annoying now!!
