Musica shuts down

It doesn't state they will continue to do that, though, only that they have been doing it for the stores closed since September 202.

"In the stores which have been closed since September 2020, the Musica staff have been absorbed into the Clicks Group’s expanding health and beauty store network."

It'd likely be very difficult to absorb staff from all 59 stores into the CLicks group, tbh.
I think a lot of stores have closed already so this process has already begun.

Went into our local one now. Not many CDs there, they have a "sale"for R20. Some I'll likely buy, but if that's 5 then it's a lot.
DVDs on sale but it doesn't appear any Blu-Rays (I stopped buying DVDs a while back). Some specials on games. No specials on any hardware they have...for now.

I wouldn't mind being wrong tho. Hopefully it's the case here too. Doubtful
nah these stores will likely die someday and nobody will collude to push the stock price higher for a local business like the reddit bunch did for gamestop

I'm not sure they did it to save Gamestop per se, rather than thumbing their noses at Wall Street. I mean when it comes to handling employees Gamestop has some pretty disgusting practices from what I've seen on discussion boards with current and ex employees.

What is interesting is to see the incredible spin Wallstreet and their media friends are putting on this.

Remember the musica in the old Blue Route mall.
As a kid it was fun listening to CD's before you bought them..

Anyone remember look and listen?

google look and listen

huh... website is still up... looks hacked though

The Death of a Dinosaur... adapt or die...
They actually tried, but they for some reason didn't last long in the online field, I remember in around 2008 getting games from them.

As others have already stated, their online offerings were pretty meagre and pathetic. Almost half hearted like an after thought. They should have aggressively pursued the online market.

Not sure why this is a surprise. I don’t see anyone missing the video dens etc. Nostalgia is powerful though

It wasn't all that bad, in 2008 it was on the same level as take2 was at the time on movies, games and CDs. But then as I said they just stopped.

With a supply chain already in place I wonder why they didn't make the move to e-commerce.

I went into one a few times, but generally it was well I could get this cheaper off takealot/loot whatever. What is sad is my son wouldn't really ever have that feeling of going into a video store and picking a movie to watch on a Friday night.
Then again we only had one TV in the house when I was growing up, now every room has a viewing device.

I also have good memories of the video stores. Frustration too when the new releases were all booked, or a late fee for being an hour late.

Some things just become extinct.
