Muslim Groups Attempt to Censor Wikipedia

i think the question we need to ask is, what is the harm done by showing these pics? why are the Muslims objecting to it?
 
The fact is.. The picture exists, whether you agree with it or not. It exists. Its a fact that it exists. You are asking wikipedia to cover up a fact.

If the pic is on the ISLAM page then I think it should be moved to the MOHAMMED page, but if its on the Mohammed page then its in the right place. Islam does not OWN mohammed, just like christians don't OWN jesus. Thats why people can make movies like passion of the christ.

So by your logic, the aforementioned articles, as well as others like them, should not bear pictures as they are not actual, real-life photographs? The fact is that they give the reader an idea of "likeness", of what the person MIGHT have looked like. Obviously it can't be perfect as there were no camera phones around at the time and Mohammed's friends were'nt going to spend the afternoon at the mall painting a tapestry of him pretending to ride reindeer on the Christmas display. The Wikipedia article offers the reader all aspects of Mohammed, as much information as is available on him, which includes 400 year old paintings and sculptures, why? Because they exist.
 
WOW, Talk about intolerance. Reading some of these posts just shows how ignorant most ppl in this country are. I wonder why you guys are so intolerant towards muslims seeing that they are the one of the larger faiths. Everybody has the right to exist and the right to practice their relegions in anyway they wish. If something offends a particular relegion or grouping and they make it know, just respect it and carry on with you lives.

Will you be any poorer if you did that? Problem is not with muslims its with western ideals that a constantly being forced upon muslims. We dont have to live by western standards, and if you dont like it dont blame us. We are a proud nation and will stand up for our rights and use all legal means to get the rights we deserve. Its about time the muslim bashing stops. Islam cannot be wished away and no matter how much you try, learn to accept it and get on with you lives.

Many foreign language Wikipedias have no images at all, and it detracts dreadfully from them.
 
This thread is a great illustration of how religion makes people stupid, or how stupid people cling to religion - I can't decide which. Maybe its both.

You do realise the phrase "to each his own" infers the idea that the picture in the Wiki should remain because, well, to each his own, right?

You said the word IGNORANT. I think it applies here. You say that the west is forcing you to live a certain way? Did we force you to get the internet? Afterall thats a western invention.

How about tolerance for the Western culture as well then? Respect our right to find out whatever the hell we want about whatever we want. If you're offended by pixels on a TV/computer screen, that's your problem, not the rest of the world's...

If you don't like wikipedia's showing of images, don't use it. There is no need for it to change if it offends your fragile sensibilities. Either grow up and realize that you have no right not to be offended by other people or do not wonder from places that conform to your distorted sense of the world.

Yes I do. Problem is that if people voice an objection accept it, try to accommodate one and another and find a solution. I really don't see the why the need to get hot under the collar and stoop to such low levels and to begin insulting each other.

Why is it that when Muslims object we get called fundamentalist or terrorists, but when Jews or Christians object they are called devout Christians or orthodox Jews?

Because when they don't get their way they move on, when Muslims don't get their's they threaten violence, and if I'm not mistaken, that's terrorism...

Why is it that concepts and designs and ideas can belong to a person or a company, but not Religious icons and Symbols.
