Muslims comdemn Islamic State

Avoiding the question are we? Why don't you provide a real answer?

I have yet to join a march to condemn anything. I don't believe it achieves squat.

It's the same reason I don't forward all the email petitions asking for a zillion signatures.

Was that answer enough for you?

And if you are muslim and haven't marched against Israel you get brownie points ;)

I have regular discussions with family, colleagues, friends etc. asking why all the outrage for Gaza (which is dispicable by the way), and not for Syria/Iraq, what about all the other Muslims, Christians, etc. suffering around the world.

i am very interested to know what their response was

Well basically people in my age group 20-30's agree with my view that not enough is being done, older generation still believes that Gaza takes priority at the moment. Myself and many others will use platforms such as myBB to voice out against attrocities and also educate. In the information age we need to find better ways of doing things than jumping up and down in front of Woolworths.

Thing is though every Friday there are special prayers made for all Muslims suffering in the world and mentioned by name, Iraq, Syria, Palestine etc. but unfortunately non-muslims don't get to hear this which is a real shame.

I must say I'm really shocked to hear some of the stories from some of you guys saying certain Muslims agree with the killings etc. happening around the world, I'm yet to hear such nonsense and when I do, oh boy, I feel sorry for that individual, I'll have a field day with them. I'm no scholar but you really don't need to be when arguing common sense and human dignity.

you see, people like me, rely on people like you for an insight as to what goes on "behind closed doors" so to speak.

what really intrigues me, is that the older generation see's gaza as a priority, while hundreds of thousands are being killed elsewhere & islam as a whole, as a result of this behavior (the killings) is brought into disrepute - how do they reconcile this ?

They alone would know. Look I don't want to disrespect anyone but when Islam is taking a beating because of what these idiots are doing then we need to ask these questions. Thankfully though no one has accused me of disrespecting anyone when speaking about other things that are happening besides Palestine. It's not that they don't know or care about it, I suspect it could be that they have witnessed Palestine's human rights and dignity being destroyed much longer than any of us (referring to the long history of segregation etc. best left to the other threads) so I assume they feel the need to do something about it.

I think the younger generation will be the ones to reform Islam, especially if you look at the youngish Scholars like Hamza Yusuf (yes I know 55 is not young but its all relative) and the like. I know it will take time to restore what I and many others know as Islam but we'll get there I hope.

interesting comment

i recall wayfarer saying something similar on islam:
"the foundation is good, it's the house that could do with some renovation" - or words to very similar effect

It's a cult. This headline is nothing but some group try to save face and market themselves as 'good'.

It is a good start... now to sustain and expand on their renunciation of ISIS and ALL atrocities being committed in the name of any religion.

I think one good thing came from the thread, identifying reasonable as well as unreasonable people.

I agree with MickeyD, negate the influence and you'll stop them, you will definitely not stop them with brute force, that will only serve to make way for new members. It is the duty of every Muslim to educate other Muslims as well as non-Muslims on why IS and the like are barbaric, twisted, power hungry fools.

*cough* death to apostates *cough*

The handful of very obvious and still disturbingly mainstream anti human rights and anti common sense stances of Islam aside, this condemnation is great to see. I think the world at large was getting very tired of seeing atrocities happen and having Muslim organisations and representatives remain silent.

Now on to condemning the seemingly popular view of death for apostasy, death for adultery. Condemnation of homophobia would be great to see too. There are more but frankly we all know the drill here.

(don't laugh these things aside and tell me this and similar ideas aren't happening here in SA. There is a Muslim on this very forum that has said before he would quite happily discriminate against someone because he/she is an apostate, and the folks here are largely well educated Muslims)

There is no death penalty for apostasy in Islam. The hadith used to justify this ridiculous practice directly contradicts the Quran in it's view of no compulsion in religion, "Let there be no compulsion in religion; truth stands out clear from error." Surah 2:256. What point would there be to compel someone to remain Muslim? And in the same vein what could possibly be the justification for killing someone who does not believe in Islam and does you no harm?

Just to clear that up but please lets keep that in the introduction to Islam or redirected threads.

So all the Islamic scholars past and present that think it is punishable by death (as per the Hadith) are simply wrong in your view? Which other Hadith can thus be ignored?

Why would there need to be a justification? There isn't justification (not any logical or rational one anyway) for homosexuality being vilified.
