Muslims comdemn Islamic State

ISIS gives me the impression of Islamic version of satanism, if it didn't exist before, it sure seems to exist now.
It's almost as if there's a part of ISIS that wants to start a big war, and they definitely trying real hard to get America and Britain to send troops.

I'm also questioning their motives, it's starting to look like what they really after is infamy and fortune. How many people are there that would fund their "cause".

They sure treading a small line between "holy warriors" and just plain psychopaths.

So all the Islamic scholars past and present that think it is punishable by death (as per the Hadith) are simply wrong in your view? Which other Hadith can thus be ignored?

Why would there need to be a justification? There isn't justification (not any logical or rational one anyway) for homosexuality being vilified.
Any Hadith which contradicts the Quran.

The issue on homosexuality and Islam has been discussed in other threads and I have no issues one way or the other with regards to people's sexual orientation. I have a friend and two colleagues who are gay and I get on very well with them. We have no right to judge anyone (given sometimes one would do it untentionally).

Edit: forgot to point out that just because people have said something or done something for a long time, does mot make it right. I do not care which scholar says it is correct to kill someone for leaving Islam it is still wrong. As a note though this is one of the issues which is disputed by various scholars, certainly not all condoning death for apostates.

Tell that to the scholars.

You may not have issue one way or the other but Islam does (common decency and human dignity remember, your words, but they are seemingly so separated from the official stance of Islam on issues like homosexuality).

Yea but you have to admit there are plenty advocating it. You can't call that a stance packed with common sense and a respect for human dignity (again these are the words you chose to use to attribute to Islam).

Remember you alone don't get to define what Islam is. While it is admirable that you personally have chosen to reject those aspects of Islam the fact remains that the death for apostasy thing is still a debated issue and a big black mark. The sad part is the discrimination against homosexuals thing is not even a debated issue, the discrimination is seemingly set in stone. Despite these issues seemingly so at odds with concepts like common decency and a respect for human dignity you choose to attribute these aspects to Islam. (heck we haven't even started on the sexism).

Jamiat Ulama condemns Islamic State for brutality

Only for their brutality? Too little to late as you islamists by your passive non reaction gave ISIS the go ahead seal of approval to do what they have done in the name of your god Allah up to now and YOU are complicit in what they are still going to do. Much more that a few PR words is needed to regain your lost respect in the world.

I think one good thing came from the thread, identifying reasonable as well as unreasonable people.

I agree with MickeyD, negate the influence and you'll stop them, you will definitely not stop them with brute force, that will only serve to make way for new members. It is the duty of every Muslim to educate other Muslims as well as non-Muslims on why IS and the like are barbaric, twisted, power hungry fools.

Unreasonable for failing to buy into the spin? Try pulling the other one.

Islam has a long way to go. Cooing over one press release means nothing in the general scheme of things.

Apparently they don't think it contradicts the Quran. That verse you quoted from the Quran is clearly not a direct contradiction, and can be interpreted various ways. We always hear about 'context', so surely that applies here, too.

Why do you think it's an issue of huge debate apparently across the Islamic world and across the history of Islam? Clearly not settled at all.

And all we got was weasel words from that discussion.

If you 'have no issues' with it, then it means you disagree with the Islamic position.

And my point was merely that there are things in religion (in this case Islam) which apparently require no actual justification or valid reasoning behind it. So it's not really something new.

What does make something 'right' then?

And just because you and a few million/billion others believe that apostates should not be killed does not make your belief right either. The fact that the matter is under dispute means that no-one can claim to be right. It just means you prefer the sugar-coated version of Islam and they don't.

Yesterday, even Qatada, who was recently extradited from Britain to Jordan on terror charges, condemned the barbaric tactics employed by the Islamic State.
Qatada was once described by a Spanish judge as the right-hand man in Europe of Al Qaeda terror network founder Osama bin Laden.
Speaking to reporters from the dock at a Amman courthouse about the beheadings of U.S. journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, he said: 'Journalists should not be killed because they are messengers of the truth.'
He also branded IS 'a killing and demolition machine' and likened its fighters to 'dogs of hellfire'.

Meanwhile, U.S. warplanes have wiped out Islamic State insurgents menacing Iraq's Haditha Dam with five air strikes that widened what Barack Obama called a campaign to ultimately defeat the jihadist movement.
The aerial assault drove Islamic State fighters away from the dam, according to a police intelligence officer in the vast western province of Anbar, a hotbed of Islamist insurgency.
The U.S. military said in a statement that the strikes destroyed four IS Humvees, four IS armed vehicles, two of which were carrying anti-aircraft artillery, an IS fighting position, one IS command post and an IS defensive fighting position.

U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said the strikes on the Sunni Muslim insurgents had been carried out at the request of the Shi'ite Muslim-led central government in Baghdad.
'If that dam would fall into (Islamic State's) hands or if that dam would be destroyed, the damage that would cause would be very significant and it would put a significant, additional and big risk into the mix in Iraq,' Hagel told reporters during a trip to Georgia's capital, Tbilisi.
Obama said on the weekend he would explain to Americans this week his plan to 'start going on some offense' against Islamic State.
'We are going to be a part of an international coalition, carrying out air strikes in support of work on the ground by Iraqi troops, Kurdish troops,' he said in an NBC TV interview.
'We are going to systematically degrade their capabilities. We're going to shrink the territory that they control. And ultimately we're going to defeat 'em.'

Naturally, the campaign has its share of supporters and critics. Lebanon’s justice minister Ashraf Rifi believes the actions of these teenagers are an insult to Islam, citing the fact that the ISIS flag contains the Muslim profession of faith: “There is no god but God and Muhammad is his Prophet.” Lebanon’s Change and Reform parliamentary group member Nabil Naqoula immediately responded to Rifi’s accusation stating, “The youths who burned the Isis flag did not mean to insult the Islamic religion”, adding that “this flag does not represent Islam in the slightest.”

People now saying that burning the flag is insulting Islam because it contains the declaration of faith, the Shahadah. Uhm, someone needs to tell that dude that burning it, is one the most respectful ways to destroy something with words of the Quran on it, the other is burying it.

People like this are holding Muslims back.

So burning the Quran isn't a bad thing?

Muslims don't eat pork and have a negative view of homosexuality for no rational reason whatsoever. I don't think guys that are confused over the irrationally "correct" way to destroy something sacred are holding Islam back any more or less than the previously mentioned pervasive stuff.

Depends what the intention is behind burning it. If your intention is to burn it to desecrate it then obviously wrong. If your intention is to destroy it to prevent it from being desecrated then all good. I think it's safe to assume that the Muslims burning it would not want the Shahada anywhere near ISIS.

when a quran (or even just pages of it) need to be disposed of (Children's schoolbooks or other materials often contain sections or verses. Quran may be old, faded, or have broken binding etc) you have 3 options burying (wrapped in cloth and place where people don't normally walk a mosque or more commonly graveyard), placing it into flowing water (wash away the words and disintegrate the paper), or burning (ashes are then buried or washed away as in the first 2). Of course this should be done respectfully.
Which i doubt "book Burners" would do , so not specifically a bad thing, so i personally dont see the insult when they do it (better burned then be desecrated in any other way), but of course their intention isn't good, which is why other muslims get very upset.

Small steps dude, with more progressive Muslims speaking out we might get there. Homosexuality is a touchy issue, like previous posters have indicated just because Muslims do not agree with homosexuality does not mean they can be discriminated against or live under threat of death. The issue of Pork is a non issue to me, it is one of the filthiest animals in existence, why would you want to eat it (obviously debatable depending on your view, however this is just my view).

I know you believe I have a sugar coated view of Islam, you've made that clear. I don't believe I do but to each his own and so on.

Point of the post was to support those against ISIS not to have another discussion on the topics already discussed in other threads.

Except where Islam dominates.
