Hello!!!

Could someone (prefably with experience in the cape town area) advise me on which ADSL account to take. i have to mention that i have not applied for a normal telkom line as yet, ill probably apply for that later in the week, and hopefully be on the net within the next 2 weeks, depending on telkoms service..... Im a student so im looking for the most bank for my buck.

The Mweb Uncapped 384kbps with ADSL line is R349 and the Telkom line rental at R140 bringing the total to R489.
WebAfrica Uncapped 1Mbps with ADSL line is R489 and the Telkom line rental at R140 bringing that total to R629.

I mainly want to use the line for downloads, probably light gaming too but mostly downloading...
Im aware of Mwebs fair usage policy and throttling etc and LOTS of people dont have any complains about their service. With this account ive often seen a average download speed of 35-40kbps using Alt.Binz.
However WebAfricas usage policy throttles you to half your speed for 6 hours and/or 7 days. But seeing that its a 1Mb line what will the speed be compared to the Mweb deal and is it really worth an extra R140?

Or is there any other offering thats worth R600pm including telkom line rental?

Thanks in advance

I have no idea how bad the throttling is but those amounts are super low. I could browse that in those time periods.

I am very happy with my Mweb 1 meg uncapped (although more expensive). I average around 120 gig/month without even trying. Local nzbs I get full line speed, the only noticeable shaping is on file locker sites and torrents.

50gb this month on 384 and thats with gaming and downloads running from 3-11am

For uncapped, you can't go wrong with MWEB.

Previously they had a special for DSTV subscribers, that if you sign a 6 month contract, you get the first 3 months free (I'm currently on this package). This is only for data though, and excludes ADSL line rental. Check if it is still available, and you can probably use your parent's/friend's DSTV smart card number to sign up (if the offer is still available)

Good MOrning khalidsul23, we also offer a 1meg product inclusive of line rental at R588.00

If you have an excisting account with MWEB why dont you consider an update, if your a new client we can arrange a trial product if you'd like.

Kind regards,
MWEB Guy

Do the MWeb thing, just left WA after 5 years, with the last six months on 1Meg Uncapped. The WA "rolling window" says it all.

Go with the 384kbps i downloaded 40g last montg.. At least mweb dont throttle you. You didn't state how much you are looking to download in terms of gig.

+1.

I'd rather take a 384 package from Mweb than the 1Mb package from WA. I'm not sure, but I think Mweb has totally canned their 384, so you would probably have a 1Mb account with a 384 line, so you probably wouldn't have issues if you wanted to push your 384 line.
I managed a mere 110GB on WA, and I worked very very hard at it, smashing windows left right and centre (it's like driving at 200kph in a single lane with glass windows on the sides)

But all in all, take Mweb's 1Mb package. It's worth it.

Not possible unless you meant last month {may} not this month june.

At maximum through put on a 384kbps you can get...
48 kBps
2880 kB per minute
172800 kB per hour or 168.75 Mb
4050 Mb per day assuming no overheads and constant maximum through put

So in five days the absolute maximum you could download is 20Gb

Not everyone is on uncapped to backup the internet.

Ya I know but he clearly stated in hes thread that hes looking to download and game. So in this instance downloading is the main factor (for him not for me)
