Hi

I signed up for MWEB 4MB uncapped about 3 weeks ago.

At first the performance seemed ok, I was never really impressed with the browsing speed.

However, over the last 2 weeks the browsing has become ridiculously slow.

Major sites like Google (search, adsense, analytics, adwords etc), Facebook and so on can take take ages to load.

I was looking at some photos on FB, and went to make myself a cup of tea, after a few minutes when I got back, the page was just finishing loading.

Many other pages take MINUTES to load and often time out.

I have emailed MWEB on numerous occasions and get very little in the way of support. I got a call yesterday and after 25 minutes was told that someone else would call me. It is now about 32hrs later and I have not heard from them. Many of my emails have simply been ignored.

Look at some of the speedtest.net results: (8 NOV)

I signed up for a 1GB Afrihost account and performance is much better.

What to do now though? I have paid MWEB for the month in advance - I told them this, but they do not seem too interested.

Hi

Yes, I was in Cape Town and the speedtests were from yesterday (the 8th). Strangely the MWEB technician that I spoke to for 25 minutes did not even mention this.

The performance yesterday was definately far worse than normal, but over the last two week the performance was generally very bad - I emailed mweb support at least 4 or 5 times last week with these problems.

Yesterday was the last straw - hence I ended up signing up with afrihost for a 1GB account to test it's performance, which turned out to be much better than the performance I have had with the MWEB account.

IMO the MWeb technical people are the last ones to know about problems. This forum is usually the first place I look when something unexpected happens. (I have never tried to resolve this kind of weird problem using phone or e-mail).

The MWeb Network Staus page did have a mention of the problem, but rather obscure, since you had to click on Other to find it!?

hahahaha, this is the type of thread I almost created today, but u have beat me to it Gordon_R, well I have been having problems with MWEB with last 4-5 weeks and I'm a member for 3 month's now, and after hours and hours of call's, and no luck....... I can now say F*%K:erm: you MWEB, with confidence and with a smile on my face, my speed suck, but lol, not as bad as your speed mr.Gordon_R but still I get 2meg max, and 40KB's upload, but then I subscribed it was pumping at full:twisted: 4 meg. but 40KB's upload:erm:
but my browsing is slower then a dail-up.............

MWEB + their QoS & shapping + Business plan of cheap uncapped = EPIC FAIL

So once again F$%K:erm: you MWEB, and wasting my time and I'm going to unsubscribe from MWEB, and get something better after my line have been migrated back to telkom, and then I'll be paying R2 more with a smile on my face :)

Another thing, once in a while my internet just dies like in, no resolving works, but other stuff with IP's configured works 100%, sooo... thx google, I'm happy to use your DNS servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 because you seem to be 24/7

tata MWEB

now I'm searching for a replacement........

DATA only...cheap and working......please help....

Hi MSB

Please send me a private message with your MWEB account details to enable me to do the necessary research on my side.

Regards,
MWEB Guy

Yesterday I did a speed test and got 600kbps.

Sigh.

HTTP speeds have been up and down for me for me since last friday I think.

Don't worry man, alot of MWEB users will unsubscribe. including me, and then hopefully this MWEB problem will be fixed. MWEB don't care, its a company, its all about the money, and they can take of that add on TV because I can't sit 24/7 on my coach and watch YouTube and browse internet because my 4meg uncapped blows, in a bad way, not the good way..... <-- once again unhappy customer, but that sh*t happens then they bite of more then they can chew... mofo

Yeah, they are so quick to call you back during the sales process.... but if you need support it's a different story.

The support team did call me a few times a while ago ONCE the query got escalated high enough, but in general they don't seem to have a proper ticketing system in place.

Anyways - looking like I will switch over to the Afrihost gold package which I was originally considering. Currently the special gives 50GB unshaped @R475

this is true, I have subscribed and got my password and username the same time over the phone and I was able to go on, but...... the sales person messed up my account in process....hahahah food for thought

I'm also going to switch over my DATA to Afrihost probably, or something like it

hahaha noooo... for afrihost....the more you download the slower your speeds gets, thats their policy....

Well - I signed up for 1GB with Afrihost.

Mweb then called me, I spoke to them for another 25 minutes or so - this was now the 2nd time. all in all about 4 or 5 hours on the phone with them over the last 3 months.

They then escalated my query again, but have not heard from them since. Their support is really not up to scratch.

ohk, How is the internet @ afrihost?

It just seems to me, that uncapped isn't really a good option to have in south africa, it just suck........

The Afrihost 1GB unshaped account is performing significantly better than the MWEB 4MB shaped account.

Would go with Afrihost, but not sure what they're going to do on 31 DEC. All depends if they give more data on the Gold package, or extend the current special (50GB)
