Mweb BAN at what point?

i dont mind people being cut for bypassing shaping by using vpns or other such services but they shouldn't cut people for using alot of data on an UNCAPPED plan, in my opinion 300-500gb on an uncapped plan such as mwebs is not unreasonable at all, theres no alternative because the business package is simply too expensive.

People who claim to be cut for only high usage have every right to take Mweb to the ASA or sue for breach. I would like to see how mnay of the cut accounts actually go and put in a complaing to the ASA to prove that they've been cut for high usage and not shaping bypass.

That case would be followed by a lot of people.

The problem is that someone said that MegaUpload - the second most popular service in the world for downloads also appears to be using tricks itself which MWEB may consider abusive. What do you do if the file is on MU? MU is also cheaper than other hosts like RapidSh-t. What about lesser known one click hosts like FileServ which are UNSHAPED at present? That's also bypassing shaping - you find yourself some obscure host and use that instead of well known ones eg RapidS-hit. You get kicked off.

Im not scared of Mweb. I'll continue to download what I want, When I want, How much I want and in anyway I want. And if Mweb has a problem with it, they can suck my shiny dingdong!

I don't think anyone is scared, it's just that some people have email accounts with them which they've used for >10 years. At least one user who was banned had that issue.

Let's also not forget the amount of leeway we give to MWEB. MWEB Uncapped Residential is a poor redundancy account. I had to buy SAIX GBs (prepaid and 30 day duration because I expected the line to be dead for >1 week) during that SEACOM crash time. That happens a lot. Will MWEB refund me? No.
MWEB double billed me last month too. They only rectified the problem after I contacted them.
Last time I needed support from MWEB I had to fight on HelloPeter and MyBB to get satisfaction. I was almost 1 week without DSL. I'm now paying for a second iBurst account to maintain redundancy if DSL dies and have prepaid SAIX GBs if MWEB itself dies.

I think we forgive MWEB a lot.

Because some of us used it since 1998, when Hotmail sucked, had no POP3 and SMTP etc.

Well its as good a time as any to slowly begin moving over to gmail or something similar. If you don't do it now then when, 2020?.

P.s. I'm not making excuses for mweb.

This is exactly the attitude we Africans as a continent need to have and demand. We cannot accept anything less, why should the other 'developing' countries have better standards than we? They tell us some bull**** about locations, distances to exchanges but yet the companies are bringing in millions upon millions of dollars in profits year in and year out.

Next step is demand ICASA and government/telkom to upgrade and invest more into everything that relates to the world-wide-web...

Gmail et al are are tied to whoever owns that domain name. The only sure and safe alternative is having your own domain name and using some foreign company specialising in email hosting. Ideally register the .com for 10 years up front. All that costs pretty dinero though $10 x 10 = $100 + $29.95 pm for premium email hosting.

There are easier ways. You just set gmail to forward all incoming messages to another two free email accounts, possibly hotmail and yahoo. It quite easy to get free redundancy.

But agree with you regarding the email address itself. But allowing mweb to be your email address "holder" is just as dangerous as trusting google.

It really doesnt have to cost much to own your email address. http://www.afrihost.com/domain-email.php

Are you downloading in any way which is in contravention of the T&C or otherwise using your connection in a way which is in contravention of the T&C?

If I download over 100gb (no torrent) worth of stuff on a 384K line every month, will I get banned even if that I don't use any program to bypass shaping?

That's not going to happen, hey, as it's physically impossible to pull that much on a 384 line.

They ban anyone at leisure that use their Internet as advertised. If you have to use it according to their ..... TOS/T&C/CEO thrills ... then you may as well stick with the better options like now Axxess, Afrihost (dear me) and OpenWeb.

I think its still too early in terms of uncapped and to be honest, I think mweb has done a good job up until this point. What were you guys paying per gb prior to mweb's uncapped packages?

Mweb could obviously market these upcapped packages as 200gb capped packages for the same price. Ultimately though, you guys that are winging would be the ones that suffered as most normal people dont have the need to download 500gb's per month. How much porn can you guys seriously consume in one month?

As time progresses things will improve, you cannot blame mweb though for a problem which is endemic to South Africa.

Rubbish. They ban users who CONSTANTLY contravene the T&C they agreed to when signing up for the account. To suggest otherwise is rubbish.

If you can download 100GB on a 384kbps line in a month, then you have an exceptional 384kbps line.

That issue aside, if you do not contravene the T&C, you can download "as much as you want".
