So last year when Mweb run the facebook promo that you will get a 30days free uncaped trial I was first to jump and test the service out. It was stated that the account would be terminated after 30days and you wil be contacted and asked if you would like to continue with the service.

This was a free 30 day trial so banking details was not required and I didn't give any.

30 Days passed and after using the IS vs Mweb I decided to go with the cheaper IS product which I am still using today.

As far as I know they should have terminated the account and phoned me, but they never did.

2 months later I get a sms from trans union saying I have been handed over. Surprised I phoned the number and submitted a dispute 12 times.

I received 1 sms from them saying that the query has been successfully resolved.

Today I applied for a cellphone contract just to find out that I have been blacklisted back in December 2010 and till this date did not know anything about it.

What I phoned trans union they say yes Mweb Connect PTY LTD has blacklisted me for non payment.

After begging Mweb rep like a homeless person for help via pm here before they black list me nothing was done. I am not getting my name cleared because Mweb is to incompetent to do anything which includes the Mweb rep here.

So I reckon my only why is lawyer? Any advice?

Hi cavedog

I have received your PM and I have escalated this to the correct department.

Kind regards
MWEB Guy

Billed you for something that you didn't want and then have the audacity to blacklist you ??? That's really unprofessional.

Lodge a complaint with ICASA... in terms of the Telecoms act.
Then lodge a complaint with the Consumer Council... Call the Consumer Protection Helpline and mention that your problem is from before the CPA kicked in but that you'd appreciate any advice with respect to handling this problem. They may be able to point you in the right direction.

G'Luck!

Hell, I had a problem with Mweb similar to this donkey's years ago... and I see they are still up to crap.

Don't stuff around mate. Get a lawyer because believe me they are in the process of getting a judgement against you.
Phone all the radio stations you can, write to as many newspapers as you can, call Carte Blanche, call the consumer ombudsman and write about it on as many blogs as you can.
Get a twitter account and start tweeting about it. Look up the CEO's home number and call him there every night.

If you leave it to Mweb Guy you'll be sorry. You don't think they assign the cream of their crop to monitor bulletin boards now do you ?
Don't leave it. Blow it skyhigh. You can score some real monetary damages out of this one. Don't get mad. Get even.

This might be seen as harassment so rather not do this one as it could count against you. But yes screw them they can't treat people like this, burn them to the ground, figuratively! XD

Ahh, yes. Same thing happened to me. I got billed incorrectly last year for the free month even and then was credited and then billed again for a couple of months afterwards, even though I did not officially sign up with them. Just tried out the free month. I was also handed over to ITC a couple of months afterwards and then I typed both ITC and Mweb's legal department a nice email. :) Shortly after I received another "written off" credit note and that was the end of it, or so I hope. I haven't checked my credit record since, but I did buy a house last month and was approved for a bond, so I guess I'm safe. I hope you kept all your "invoices" etc. as evidence. Here's the letter I sent MWEB-legal and ITC. ;)

To Whom It May Concern: MWEB accounts and ITC – Re: Account ref xxxxx

I have phoned MWEB call centre multiple times trying to explain the situation to them upon where I’m transferred from department to department and then usually cut-off. This happened about three times. On one occasion someone at MWEB call centre seemed to have understood me and said that they will escalate my issue to management and get back to me and to date, no one from MWEB has called me back. With the lack of response, I believed that the issue has been resolved, so I decided I shall leave it there then.

Then I started getting sms’s from ITC stating that my “account” has been handed over. I thought to myself that surely the support staff at MWEB can’t be this incapable of understanding English. So I phoned ITC and talked to one of their agents. I explained the whole situation to them and she sounded like she understood and even laughed at how MWEB is not capable of following up a simple accounts issue. She told me not to worry and that she’ll explain to MWEB and get back to me soon. This was about beginning August and to date, no one from ITC have come back to me. So once again, with the lack of response in about three months, I believed that the issue has been resolved. Until Monday 1/11/2010, when I got a SMS from ITC stating that they are about to advise their client to apply for judgement on you regarding your MWEB “account”. My blood boiled.

So now, hopefully for the last time, I’m going to explain this situation to both MWEB and ITC in black and white with my evidence attached.

MWEB announced in March 2010 that they’ll be launching consumer uncapped in SA in April 2010. I’ve read this news on Mybroadband.co.za. I’ve also learned from Mybroadband.co.za that MWEB have launched a campaign called “Free the Web” on facebook and that they will be giving away a FREE month of uncapped to the first 1000 customers that signed up on their Facebook. So I signed into Facebook and signed up on the Free the Web facebook page. Soon afterwards I got confirmation that I’m one of the lucky 1000 to receive their FREE month of uncapped. (See 1st and 2nd attachment) Please note the word FREE in the emails. A friendly consultant from MWEB called me on the Saturday after I received the email to get some details from me and said that they will activate my account sooner. Great, I thought, and then I sent off the details on the Tuesday 23/03/10. I’ve read then that week on MyBroadband forums, a post from a MWEB representative, that they were having issues with creating the free accounts and that they will soon simplify the process. The friendly consultant from MWEB called me back that Tuesday afternoon and said the details I’ve sent him wasn’t necessary anymore and that they are simplifying the process for the FREE accounts and I’ll just receive login details via email. He also said that he will destroy the docs I’ve sent him. On the 25th I got an email from MWEB (see 3rd attachment) of how to get my login details for the FREE month, but the Friday prior, a friendly technician from MWEB had already phoned me and gave me the login details over the phone. My FREE account was activated and at this time I was seriously impressed with MWEB’s service. Unfortunately it all went downhill from there.

On 13/04/2010, about two weeks into my FREE month, I got an email from MWEB accounts department with a completely incorrectly billed invoice for my FREE month. (See 4th attachment). I contacted MWEB and said that I’ve been incorrectly billed and that I’m just on their FREE 1 month trial. The MWEB staff on the phone apologised and said that they will sort it out. On the 26/04/2010 I got an email from MWEB (see 5th attachment) stating that I hoped I enjoyed my FREE month and that it will AUTOMATICALLY come to an end on 31/04/2010. My finances were not looking too good at the time and I decided that I WILL NOT be signing up with MWEB. Two weeks later I got another statement from MWEB accounts where I was incorrectly credited and invoiced again. (See 6th attachment) I then tried phoning MWEB a couple times as I’ve explained in the beginning of this email.

I truly hope that this can now be resolved. Please contact me via email and let me know that this has been resolved, as I’m NOT GOING TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS PROMISED FOR FREE AND I NEVER SIGNED UP OFFICIALLY WITH MWEB. Otherwise, MWEB, feel free and go ahead and apply for judgment against me and incur the unnecessary legal fees. I will see you in court as I know how this is going to end with the evidence provided here.

At least I’ve learned 2 valuable life lessons through this: NOTHING IS EVER FREE, considering the time and effort wasted and NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH MWEB.

Well if anyone is blacklisted by Mweb's incompetence, then they may be liable for the consequences. If someone's house purchase fell through then Mweb is in for an expensive ride!

Hear that Cavedog ? Judgement ! They are applying for a judgement against you even as Will is promising to resolve it. Believe me.

Dude, you've got the upper hand now.if i were you i would demand free internet for the next 2 years on a 10mb line uncapped unshaped. you can claim for damages along the way, i.e. declined of bond or any other purchases which was affected by Mweb.

keep us updated

I now feel that MWEB doesn't deserve my business. I'm seriously considering cancelling.
