Mweb blacklisted me for their mistake

Ahh, yes. Same thing happened to me. I got billed incorrectly last year for the free month even and then was credited and then billed again for a couple of months afterwards, even though I did not officially sign up with them. Just tried out the free month. I was also handed over to ITC a couple of months afterwards and then I typed both ITC and Mweb's legal department a nice email. :) Shortly after I received another "written off" credit note and that was the end of it, or so I hope. I haven't checked my credit record since, but I did buy a house last month and was approved for a bond, so I guess I'm safe. I hope you kept all your "invoices" etc. as evidence. Here's the letter I sent MWEB-legal and ITC. ;)

That is exactly what happend to me. I got billed. Then phoned in and asked why.... They gave me a credit note just to re billed me again and now blacklisted me.

I fought with them an got a sms from ITC saying they will advise Mweb to seek judgement against me. I was furious and logged so many disputes it not possible to track all the ref no. Today Mweb said that I must settle the balance and then I will get removed from the blacklist. Looks like I'm off to the lawyers tomorrow.

Hear that Cavedog ? Judgement ! They are applying for a judgement against you even as Will is promising to resolve it. Believe me.
Get a lawyer today before it's too late.
Contact this guy in Rosebank ... he's never lost a single case in consumer complaints against Corporates. He's the guy that beat Teazers in Bedfordview and prevented them from opening :

Do yourself a big big favour and call him.

Thanks dude. I know. God forbid!

Everybody that was blacklisted by Mweb must get together and get a lawyer collectively. Mweb is liable for compensation due to defamation of character.

I couldn't cause it was suspended and when you are suspended you just get the Mweb landing page.

The guy doesn't wan't it addressed. He's addressed it many times.
He wants it resolved. That would involve MWEB admitting they made a mistake.
That won't happen any time soon. As a consumer activist I can only say I wish we had laws that could put the CEO in prison.
MWEB can ruin this guys life and if they get a judgement against him he is f***ed for the next 5 years. Rescinding a judgement will cost in the region of R100 000 and take years even if you are the victim.
That is a rubbish answer.
Cavedog ... send them a fax notifying them that if the issue is not resolved within 24 hours you will take legal action and reserve all your rights accordingly.
Don't delay. These guys don't give a toss about your life.

That happened to me 6 years ago when I had dial up with the bastards.
I just gave up after 5 attempts to get my money back.

Will never use the fckers again, I don't care what they offer.

Being a total outsider, I find this really appalling from Mweb's accounting dept, the chain of command get it so wrong and its up to the client to actually prove his innocence? Not being a MWEB subscriber I have actually recommended other friends to utilize their service, but after reading this post, I am gobsmacked! And of course there is always two sides to a story but this one I can actually believe 100%. I was standing in the shower now even thinking about how it all went pear shaped ...

Agent 1: Hey I got this guy to sign up on Facebook
Agent 2: Hey this guy signed up for the free account
Agent 3: Is this guy now signing up
Agent 1: Not sure, but he is now signed up
Agent 3: Okay great, do we bill him for next month
Agent 2: Not sure, um, Agent 1?
Agent 1: Not sure, Agent 3?
Agent 3: Lets pass this over to billing
Agent 4: Did this guy sign up?
Agent 1: Yes, he took up the offer
Agent 4: Great, bill the sucker
ICT: You haven't paid, BLACKLIST!

More or less

I think I should write about this on my consumer blog. It seems to be a classic study of a marketing f--k-up.
Typically, they get some "social media expert" who says : We must do a Facebook campaign. That's where our customers are.
Except said expert can't think ahead about what happens after the campaign and fails to inform the billing dept. about how it works.
They then end up screwing the exact people they set out to target. Classic ! And at the end of the year the marketing team gets an award for a job well done. They did after all sign up 1000 new trial members.
Classic case of disconnected marketing "gurus" not understanding how the company actually works or what the other hand is doing. I'll bet they can't even tell how many of those people actually signed up afterwards. Or perhaps the campaign was a total failure and they're trying to recoup the costs by screwing their target market.
Cavedog perhaps you should be calling their marketing manager and asking why you as part of their target market that responded favourably is being screwed like this ?
Why not take your story back to Facebook ? Start a page asking for donations to sue MWEB and tell your story. Link it to Twitter and send a tweet out to some of the journalists and watch it snowball. Send the Facebook link out to as many journalists as you can.
One of them is bound to see the human interest side of it and pick it up.

The lady helping me is very helpful. Big up to her. The rest of the people that phoned me is so rude. They just ask me so you used the account but you don't want to pay and comments like that. Its being resolved hopefully cause I went to the lawyer just as a backup.

I have this email if you need it
You're one of the lucky 1000 FTW SA fans who've qualified for a month of Uncapped ADSL from MWEB in April. It's valued at R299 for the 512k service, but if you have a 4Mb line, we'll give you the R299 discount! Someone from our team will be contacting you in the next week to give you all the info.

Enjoy your new limitless Internet and thank you, one again, for joining our movement to free the web.

Hi Cavedog, we're still trying to get to a proper understanding of where things wen't wrong and I'll make sure we make a final decision on this tomorrow, but to be fair since you have raised the issue for public discussion perhaps you'd like to clarify how the usage on the account by youself and two other parties continued through to July 2010? In your original post you gave the impression that you ceased all usage of the account after the trial period expired. If that had been the case this really would have been a cut and dried matter, but the continued usage does make it somewhat confusing so I'd really just like to gain an understanding of where things went wrong between the trial not ending and the subsequent billing on what seemed to be an active account transpired?

So you admit you tricked him by allowing the account to run over. I think we're heading into fraud here.

Will, perhaps you have missed this. As cavedog explained, he could not use the account after it was suspended as it gave him the mweb landing page.

Now I would think that a company such as mweb, would make sure that the account gets suspended at the end of the trial. How can you allow yourselves to give free uncapped accounts for a month and then have the audacity to bill the client. My guess is that your system is seriously flawed and is showing usage during July, either that or mweb purposefully Allowed the accounts to run over the trial period so that u could suck money out of the client.

What aggravates me is that this is clearly a failure on mweb's side. You are screwing over a client due to your systems being inadequate to suspend a trial account on time and you are billing him for your fsck up.

@cavedog: if mweb refuse to sort you out unless u pay them, then I strongly urge u to take these scavengers to court. I am sorry u are going through this and I wish u all the best!
