MWeb blocking MTN VoWiFi connectivity

Confirm if your MTN / MWEB combo WiFi calling is working.
Received a call today indicating that it should be working for everyone within the next 24hrs

Mine is working 100%

Here's what happened:

This is quite a noteworthy event. After updating my phone to iOS 17.02, MTN VoWiFi started working on my device. Interestingly, my wife's phone isn't able to activate MTN VoWiFi. I have checked the settings on both devices and they are the same. I am stumped.

Contemplating paying up my contract with them, and moving to MTN.

VoWiFi
5G
eSims
Cheap data from Afrihost
If VoWiFi is a crucial feature for you, I recommend considering Vodacom, as it offers better and more consistent performance. You could use Vodacom as your primary line and get an eSIM. Then, simply use an MTN SIM with Afrihost for data.

17.02 did not enable VoWiFi. Its just a coincidence, MTN loaded all the IP tables for Wifi calling to work yesterday.
Double check the settings on your wifes phone.

I spoke too soon; I had to reboot my router, and now I can't see the MTN WiFi network anymore.

How often does your DHCP renew ?
Wait a few hours then try flight mode , if MTN WiFi pops up and disappears after a few seconds , MTN is back to its old tricks and is blocking your IP address

Typically, this occurs only when I restart the ONT.

I attempted to activate flight mode and then turn it off, just as you suggested. As you mentioned, the MTN WiFi briefly appears for a moment and then vanishes.

Your IP is definitely being blacklisted. I would suggest you contact MWEB and have them reach out to MTN's Networking department

Please someone get in touch with them.
All metrofibre IPs need to be added to the white list

It might be another coincidence. One of the factors that allowed MTN Wi-Fi is after I added a Vodacom eSIM into a dual setup and set it as the primary mobile data SIM.
I also find that when vodacom’s wifi calling is activated, mtn’s activates as well

I have the same setup , however not the same experience. The Vodacom eSim would only register to WiFi.
The MTN eSim would connect to WiFi then drop out after a few seconds.

Drop ICASA a complaint. They will respond.

In some cases, the MTN Wi-Fi only activates when the Vodacom eSIM is set to use mobile data. Its a hit and miss. I am planning to migrate to afrihost in December, hopefully it will work with linklayer as backbone

It was confirmed that MTN WiFi calling works on Afrihost in another thread so should be good
